themuse.UsinganapponaniPadwillhelpthestudentsfeelcomfortableduetotheirpossibleprevious
experiences,butitwillalsoallowthemtouseanewsoftwareorapp.Iwillbecontrollingthetechnologyforthe
mostpartduetotheirunfamiliarity.
Iwillusepicturesonline,aswellasavideothatshowsapropertimespanoftheseasonsfromYoutube.Iwillalso
havetodownloadandpurchasetheapponto4iPads.
Assessment/Rubrics

Forapreassessment,Iwillaskthestudentssimplequestionsbeforethelessonbegins.Forexample,Iwillask"how
manyseasonsarethere?"and"whataretheycalled?".Iwillalsoaskthemiftheycandescribewhateachlookslike.I
willuseasimplifiedrubrictoscoretheirpicturebasedoninformationthattheyhavetakenin,usingsmileyfacesorshort
adjectivestoratetheirwork.Aparticipationgradewillalsobegivenbasedonhowmucheachstudenttookpartinthe
group.Usinganindexcardtofigureoutwhattheyhavelearnedwillbeapostassessment.Takingthemoutsideand
hearingwhattheysaywhilelookingattheirenvironmentwillalsobeanothersmallpostassessment.

IMPLEMENTATION
IntroductiontoLesson

Iwillbeginbyaskingthestudentssimplequestions.Forexample:"Howmanyseasonsarethere?","Whatiseach
seasoncalled?","Whatisthedifferencesbetweeneachseason?".Iwillthenexplainthatweatherchangesthroughout
theyear,andshowpicturesandthenameoftheseasonalongwitheachpicture.Iwilldescribeeachseasonandgive
keychracteristicsforeach.Forexample:summerhot/thunderstorms.wintercold/snow.springflowers/rain.fallcolorful
leaves/dry.

TeacherInput

Iwillshowtheenvironmentchangingthroughatimespanvideo,aswellasdiscussandpointoutthemaindifferencesof
eachseason(summerhot,springflowersandrain,fallchillyandcolorfulleavesfalling,wintersnow).

GuidedPractice

IwillshowonepictureontheSmartBoardwithallfourseasonnamesattheside.Eachpicturerepresentsaseasonby
usingdifferentelementsthatcoordinatewiththeseason.Itwillbecolorssuchaspink(spring),white(winter),blueor
yellow(summer),ororangeorred(fall).EachstudentwillgetthechancetocomeuptotheSmartBoardanddragthe
correctseasonnametothepicturethatisbeingshown.Thestudentswillgetsomesortofpositivereinforcementfora
correctanswer,andiftheydonotanswercorrectly,theywillhavethechancetotryagain.

IndependentPractice

Onthefirstdayofthelesson,Iwillhavethestudentsdrawfourdifferentpicturesshowingeachseason,basedonwhat
theyhavelearned.Iwillnotexpectthemtoknowhowtospelltheseasons,butwantthemtotrytowriteeachseason
nameabovethepictureusingtheseasonnamesshownontheSmartBoard.Theywillneedtoshowcolorsandelements
foreachseason.Afterthis,Iwilltellthemthattomorrowis"SeasonDay".Iwilltellthemtheinstructions,andsenda
parentletterhome.IwillaskthemtodressbasedontheseasonthatIhaveassignedtothem.Iwillalsoaskthatthey
bringanysmallobjectsthatcanfitintotheirbookbagtorepresenttheseason,aswell.Iwillsplitthestudentsintofour
differentgroups,eachrepresentingaseason.Onthenextday,allofthestudentswillbedressedintheirseasonattire.
EachseasongroupwillhaveoneiPad.Iwillhavetheapp"GreenScreen"byDoInkpulleduponeachiPad.Iwillallow
thestudentstodiscusswitheachotherthekeywordsthattheywillusetodescribetheirseason.Iwillalsoletthem
choosethebackgroundthattheythinkfitstheirseasonthebest.IwillthenrecordeachgroupontheiPadwhilethey
aresayingtheirkeywordsandshowingtheirclothesanditemsthattheybroughttodescribetheirseason.AfterIhave
recordedeachgroup,wewillcomebacktogetherandIwillshowthemallontheSmartBoard.

DifferentiatedInstruction

IwillusethepicturesandvideoontheSmartBoardforstudentsthataremorevisual,anddiscussthemforstudentsthat
aremoreauditory.Thedrawingswillbehelpfulforkinestheticstudents.ByusingtheGreenScreenapp,itwillallow
studentstousetheirimaginationmore,andhelpeachtypeoflearnertakesomethinginfromtheactivity.Thevisual
learnerswillseethebackground,andtheclothesanditemsforeachseason.Theauditorylearnerswillhearthekey
describingwordsforeachseason.Thekinestheticlearnersareabletoactuallyinteractandimaginethattheyareineach
season.
ThevisualpartofthelessonwillbeveryhelpfulforELLstudents.Iwilltypeorwritetheinstructionsontheboardaswell
assaythem.Thisway,ELLstudentscancomprehenditbetter.
IwillputanAIGStudentineachgroup.Thisway,theycanhelptheotherstudentsintheirgroup.

Closure

Iwillaskthemwhatseasontheythinkwearecurrentlyin,andwhichstudentswerecomfortableintheir"SeasonDay"
clothesallday.Thiswillhelpthemdeterminewhichseasonwearecurrentlyin.Afterthisdiscussion,Iwillpassoutan
indexcardandtellthemtowritedownonethingthattheyhavelearnedtoday,andtheirfavoriteseason.Theywillnot
beabletogooutsideuntilIhaveacardfromeachchild.Iwillthentaketheclassoutsideforreccess,andbeforegoing
toplay,Iwillaskthemtolookattheirsurroundingsandthinkaboutwhichkeywordstheyareseeing,whetheritbered
ororangeleaves,orflowersandrain,etc.

Ifeelthatthestudentsareinteractingwithalotinmylesson.Theyarelearningtolistentotheteacherandtouchthe
SmartBoard,aswellasworkwellingroups.Theyarealsopayingattentiontotheirsurroundingsbylookingatdetailsin
theweather.Theyareworkingwithtechnology,aswellasdoinghandsonactivitieslikedrawing.Overall,Ifeelthatmy
lessonplanisfulloffunbutinformationalactivitiestokeepkindergartenersfocusedandmotivatedtolearn.
