Characteristics: Regional Certification

Established by geographical boundaries and usually coincident


with political divisions
Can take advantage of administrative infrastructure, bridge public
& private commitments and establishes large framework for scaleup
Way to decrease certification costs for forest ownersand is often
complimented with regional support to administer the certificate

Characteristics: Group Certification


Group shape or geographical limits not defined a priori by scheme
Individual forest owners, managers, forest associationsjoin
freely
Specially developed for small forest owners
Main goal: decrease certification costs by sharing them with other
forest owners
One manager or managing entity identified on behalf of the group
