Bridge Design to Eurocodes UK Implementation

22 23 November 2010, One Great George Street

Dear colleague,

Who should attend:

If you, or your company, are involved in the
design, build, maintenance or ownership of
bridges, you cannot afford to miss this event.
If you are a:

Bridge owner
Bridge manager
Bridge designer
Bridge consultant
Bridge contractor
Local or central government engineer
Researcher or academic
with an interest in bridges
Software developer involved
in the design of bridges

This is the only event of 2010 you should

attend if you want to hear essential and
practical information on the implementation
of the Bridge Eurocodes in the UK.

As of April 2010, Eurocodes replaced British Standards

as the principal design standards for bridges in the UK.
Over the past two decades, a huge amount of work has been done to prepare
for their implementation in the UK. In support of the transition we have set
ourselves the objective of bringing important background and explanatory
information into the public domain, and for this purpose we have invited the
leading technical experts in the UK to develop and present papers at this two
day event in November at the Institution of Civil Engineers in Westminster.
This conference will provide the definitive background to the implementation
of the Eurocodes for bridge design in the UK, enabling engineers to
understand key technical decisions taken in the development of the
National Annexes and important sources of complementary information.
In addition, we have papers from major client organisations explaining
their implementation strategies. Technical background will be provided on
companion European Execution Standards and illustrative examples presented.
All of the speakers are invited experts who have been at the very heart
of Eurocode developments in the UK. The conference and accompanying
proceedings will serve as the only essential and enduring record of the UKs
Eurocodes implementation for bridge design. It will be a key meeting for
consultants and designers, local and central government engineers, rail and
highway bridge engineers, contractors, bridge managers, researchers and
academics and software developers.
I look forward to meeting you at the conference in November.

Dr Steve Denton
Chair, Technical and Organising committees,
Bridge Design to Eurocodes UK Implementation,
ICE, London, November 2010

exhibition opportunities

The papers delivered at Bridge Design to Eurocodes UK

Implementation will be compiled into proceedings produced by ICE
Publishing. All the authors are invited experts within the field they
have all contributed to the development of the Eurocodes and
documentation to support their implementation.
The published proceedings will provide the definitive record of
the background to the implementation of Eurocodes in the UK.
The experts invited to publish papers include clients, contractors
and consultants who have been central to working with the BSi
on the implementation. The proceedings will be available to
businesses, libraries and institutions as a permanent record of
the only event providing information from those experts at
the heart of the development of the Eurocodes. Please visit
www.icevirtuallibrary.com for more details.

Networking opportunities
A Drinks Reception and Prestige Dinner will be held at the close of
the first day, offering attendees the opportunity to network, meet the
speakers and continue the days discussion.
The Dinner costs 60 (exc. VAT) and guests are welcome to attend.
Corporate table packages are available. Contact Vince Elias
on +44 (0)20 7665 2226 or at vince.elias@ice.org.uk for
more information.

Bringing together up to 200 owners, designers, builders and those

involved in maintenance of bridges. Papers will be delivered by the
leading clients, consultants and contractors in the area of bridge
design, construction and maintenance. Bridge Design to Eurocodes
- UK implementation is the only event of 2010 that will allow you
to hear from and question not just the thought leaders in the area,
but all those who have been involved in the development of the
Eurocodes and their supporting documentation.
This event, and the subsequent proceedings will provide the essential and
enduring record of the UKs Eurocodes implementation for bridge design.
Sponsoring and/or exhibiting at this event will allow your organisation to:

The Eurocodes superceded the BSi standards in March 2010 and yet,
according to NCE, only a third of engineers are confident with using
them. This event will allow a full discussion of the implementation
and use of Eurocodes. Shouldnt your company be present at this
discussion?
