Surface Facilities

PE 4863
Project Fall 2016
Objective
Design a production facility to operate seven different leases in north east of
Oklahoma.
1

Background

There are seven leases in the Drumright quadrangle. The location of the leases are
given in figure 1. A water flood is planned for all leases. The maximum expected
oil and water production is presented in table 1. For all leases the GOR is about
200 scfd/bbl, the API gravity is 40 and the gas specific gravity is 0.8. There is a
compression station nearby, thus the sale line pressure is 5 psia and the fluid
temperatures arriving to the facility is about 150F. The production for each lease
will arrive separated to the facility. The oil/water and gas need to be separated for
each individual lease and the oil production need to be measured. Then the oil need
to flow through a heated treater before is storage in a tank. Mary Gooden and
Susanna Dacon Indian leases, must be tanked separately. Owing to pipeline
integrity issues, the oil will be transported by truck on daily basis. Trucks are
equipped with a LACT unit. The total flowrate measured in the lack unit will be
allocated to each lease by using the meters located just after the three phase
separator. The produce water will be first storage in a tank before is pumped back
for reinjection. The water tank should be able to retain at least 1/3 of the daily
water production. No emulsion problems are expected for this case.

Project Description
The objective of this project is to design the tank battery for the Drumright
quadrangle leases. You will need to decide which equipment you would need and
determine the size of them. The only equipment that you dont have to size is the
heater treaters but you would need to describe where it will be located. You are
3

responsible to look for any design procedure and criteria that has not been cover in
class but you need to the execution of this project (i.e. storage tank and condiment
are design). Ill be more than happy to discuss with you your assumptions and
findings but I wont tell you specific directions on what to do.

Project Rules

A maximum of three and a minimum one students per group will be allowed. After
you select your group, email me the group names. Project has three main
deliverables
1. Presentation (10 minutes). If time restrict, Ill have the discretion to call
some groups for the presentation but not all.
2. Report
3. Supporting files (i.e. Computer Program, PVTsim files, excel files, etc)
The report cannot be longer than 10 pages and should describe a brief description
of the project, assumptions and results. The following outline is suggested:
a. Executive Summary: no longer than 2 pages. This section summarize all
the project starting from the definition, stating the assumptions and given the
final conclusions (supporting them). Must be written in such way that a
reader can get the big picture of the project in a quick read.
b. Evaluation: briefly describe the input data, present any supporting plot and
state your results and final answer. Computational example is desirable.
Also, shows any information you will use for the next section. This section
should contains plot or any other graphical tool to support your conclusion.
c. Drawings: you need to provide process an instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)
and equipment layout.
d. References: any considered reference should be listed at the end of the
report.
You will be punished with 5 points for every additional page. The 10 pages does
not include the front page.

If you have any question or if you would like to discuss anything you can contact
