"Preferred Implementations"
... of generic automation architectures
for your treatment plants and remote sites
Each implementation satisfies a coherent
and uniform set of customer values and needs in terms
of automation processes:
n time savings at the design stage
n time savings at the commissioning stage
n quality assurance
n ease of maintenance and revamping of existing
installations
n optimisation of training costs.
Schneider Electric provides water industry players
with a solution adapted to each application:
n waste water treatment plants:
The "Preferred
Implementations"
proposed by
Schneider Electric
should cover
most automation
applications of the
different processes.

In some P2 installation additional pumping features and specific
constraints (pump availability) require the use of more pumps and more

developed to manage this water pumping or booster installation.

A complete autonomy and remote monitoring of your wastewater
plant with Modicon M340
The process associated to T1 preferred implementation for wastewater
plants is simplified. Small wastewater treatment plants often concentrates
key phases such as: lifting (1), screening (2), biological treatment (5)
and sludge (8). The association between the new Modicon M340 and
a Remote Terminal Unit enables to optimize the in site management
and to insure an efficient remote control of your installations.

TESYS model U combines both motor starter and control functions.
This flexibility allows control of all types of motors and pumps in the
different steps of a drinking water treatment.
For instance during
1 - Raw water pumping, Tesys U manages efficiently different pumps and
provides pumps management information.
2 - Screening in case of surface water to remove large debris.
Tesys-U is used to control the bar screen motor.
3 - Coagulation/sedimentation/flocculation.
To extract the heavy particles settled in the bottom.
Several motors controllers with Tesys-U are needed to manage mixers,
scraper or rotators.
4 - Filtration: to allow the water passing through filters that help to remove
smaller particles, and to control the filters backwash
5 - Disinfecting to manage the dosing pump and therefore the amount
of chlorine to be added to kill bacteria and microorganisms.
6 - Distribution: to control the pump needed to store Water in tank
or reservoir before distribution to customers.
7 - Sludge: to control mixers, thickeners and digesters needed in slugde
treatment.

Large Installation of several square kilometers,
Link of several kilometers with other sites:
other plants, Booster or pumping stations or remote
monitoring system
The largest drinking water treatment plants are often characterised by a large
number of controllers that manage the process (up to 100) and several hundred
of field devices such as variable speed drives and I/O modules. The filtration
process (steps 5 and 7), for instance, can be split in several treatment lines
depending on the filtration technic used: Microfiltration, Ultrafiltration,
Nanofiltration or Reverse Osmosis. In the same way, the sedimentation
treatment (4), the distribution process (9) or the sludge treatment (10 and 11),
can be structured in several process lines. Vijeo Citect solution provides
continuous 24-hour, 7 days per week monitoring of treatment process to
help identify quality failures or contamination. An efficient supervision tool
such as Vijeo Citect is mandatory to manage such complex architectures.

On the field
A large wastewater plant requires a significant engineering cost to design
the process of huge numbers of equipment, motors, valves and pumps.
Advanced processes are more and more used for biological treatment,
chemical treatment and for sludge treatment and valuation.
Several process lines managing one functional unit characterize
T4 architecture. Each line is under responsability of dedicated controller.
The UAG water librarys object approach is particularly adapted to such
complex architecture. It enables you to optimize the design and the
commissioning of your wastewater treatment. The high flexibility provided
by UAG water library allows you to freely extend and modify your
wastewater treatment installation by adding a new primary clarifier line (5),
biological process line (7) secondary clarifier line (8) or a new sludge
thickener (11) process line.
