Benefits of Probiotics

As a definition of Probiotics these are live microorganisms, microbial

food supplements that helps improving the intestinal microbial balance of the
host. At first Probiotics were used on animals and the results were visible in
adults ruminants. Probiotics protected animals against pathogens, enhanced
immune response, reduced antibiotic use and showed high index of safety.
Probiotics use enhanced the growth of many domestic animals improved the
efficacy of forage digestion and quality of milk, meat and egg.
In 1920 in Japan have been marketed for the first time food products
containing microbes for human consumption. Carbohydrate substrates are the
moast commonly used probiotics because of its ability to the components of the
normal intestinal microflora which may evince a health benefit to the hast. The
probiotics composition varies from those containing one strain of microorganism
or those containing many strains. The probiotics can be used to modulate
gastrointestinal health, such as improving lactose intolerance, increasing natural
resistance to infectious diseases in the gastrointestinal tract, suppressing
travelers diarrhea and reducing bloating. Probiotics helps develop the childs
immune system and also prevents development of childhood allergic/atopic
diseases .Use of probiotics improves gut maturity and function in preterm
neonates and reduces the
time to full enteral feeds. After many studies the use of probiotics demonstrates
benefits like weight gain, growth velocity, fewer episodes of feed
intolerance, decreased transition time from orogastric to breast feeds, and
increased postprandial mesenteric flow. There were no adverse effects of
probiotics supplementation. The use of probiotics, showed clinical improvement
especially in allergic rhinitis and IgE- sensitized( atopic) eczema has been
reported too, but also acute gastroenteritis and rotavirus diarrhea and intestinal
inflammatory disorders( Crohns disease, pouchitis) and paediatric atopic
disorders.
An alternative and promising way to combat infections is Bacteriotherapy,
which is using harmless bacteria to displace pathogenic microorganisms.
Probiotics are one of these new agents which are widely used for their

therapeutic action. It was proven that probiotic culteres may help dental
improvement. The Bacteriotherapy is a promising way to combat infections by
using harmless bacteria to displace pathogenic micro organism and this offers
protection against endemic and acute diseases.
New studies suggest that probiotics use might be useful in controlling
inflammatory diseases, treating and preventing allergic diseases, preventing
cancer, and stimulating the immune system, which may reduce the incidence of
respiratory diseases. There are still studies in progress regarding efficacy of
probiotics against immunological disorders and bacterial infections.( adult
Asthma, cancers, diabetes).
Doctors are trying to extend the study in alternative medicine of the use
and which dosages of probiotics are associated with the gratest efficacy and for
which patiens in order to help/ prevent/ heal bone problems, osteoporosis and
support in nutrition. This is adequate concerning the prevention and treatment of
certain conditions of lactose intolerance, antibiotic- associated diarrhea and
infectious diarrhea, allergy and emerging evidence accumulates concerning their
potential roe in various other conditions. This product is becoming incresingy
popular and tends to represent one of the largest functional food markets but the
development of probiotics for human consumption is still in its infancy.
