BILL OF LADING
The Bill of Lading normally has serval main functions. It is partly a receipt for the
goods signed by a chief officer and returned to the exporters. It also shows that
there is a contract of carriage between the exporters and shipping company. The
Bill of Lading also show who the legal owner oft he cargo is. After the goods have
been delivered several copies are signed by an agent of the shipping company
and returned to the exporters. A copy is kept on the ship. The exporters send
their copy to their bank which sends it with the other shipping documents to the
Conisgnees bank in return for payment. It is important to make sure that the

goods are loaded into the ship in right order and condition. Any damage or loss
will be noted on the Bill notice a ship's officer so the Bill will not be a clean Bill
of Lading. Claused Bill of Lading are not accepted by paying banks unless specific
clauses have definetely beenagreed by the customers. If the paying bank has
accepted the presented documents, they forward them by air to the customers
who use them to prove that they are the owners of the cargo and take delivery
oft he consignement from the dock. The shipping company can send the
negotiable Bill of Lading of to the importers with the carbon coppy they keep on
the ship. If the importers determine to sell the goods immedistely to the buyer
they sek the exporters to deliver the Bill to order and leave empty for
consignee space on the Bill blank so that the importers can transfer the Bill to
their customers by writing their full name and address on the Bill and signing it.
The Global Positioning System
GPS is a fast growing tehnologicall sophiticated field, with potential serve inmany
ddifferent industries. It is used on land, in the air and at sea. Developnents in the
apelication GPS realied in uneresed reliability and wide spread possibilities. The
global navigation system GPS enables the user to determine his position faster,
more accurately and easily at any place on Earth, air and sea. More conventional
method of calculating the ship's position using costal objects or astronomical
navigation take more time and they are not as accurute. By using the GPS
received the navigator is not only able to caculate his position at any given time
but the reciver also provides him with all other types of navigational information
such as the vessel's speed time of couse alterations etc. GPS is a satelite-based
locating and navigating utility that determines the user's exact latitude longitude
and altitude by tracking signals from satelites. Depending on the type of receiver
and certain other conditions, it is possible to determine the real time position
accuracies within meters or even centimetres, with position on satellites several
times per second. The GPS constellation differential was declared operational in
1995 and it consist of 24 satellites orbiting the earth to provide worldwide
coverage 24 hours a day, free of charge. GPS receivers are passive, so the
system can obtain an unlimited number of users.
