Reflection
Football games such as the one described in the essay and the video slideshow are so
unique and are terribly difficult to describe, as the feelings one experiences are surreal. The video
slideshow has taught me more about myself due to the brotherhood that comes with the team, the
project itself due to the techniques I have learned in AP Lang, and the digital component due to
the multitude of platforms I have used in this project.
Throughout the last eight years, football has been a major reason why I am the person I
am today. When I began football, I didnt have a tough bone in my body, much less think that I
would amount to much. What I learned while playing is that I can do anything I set my mind to if
I learn to toughen up to my surroundings. I did just that. Now, as a rising senior, I am a clear-cut
starter and one of the main leaders of the football team. I credit this to a rise in self-confidence
and great mentors along the way. Coaches, family members, and teammates have all emerged as
mentors for me to get where I am today. Without them, I would most likely still be that shy kid
who doesnt talk to anybody or participate in athletics. Being a part of the brotherhood that is the
football team was a huge life changer for me, considering its implications towards my daily life.
Moving forward, the experience of 9 years of football will benefit me in life. First off, by
taking what I learned during junior and senior years, I can be a better leader of a family or of a

future team. This experience will also lead me to be a better father and set a better example to
those around me by showing them how to act. In doing this, I hope to become a man that
embodies moral virtues and has the leadership qualities that resembles those of Coach Head.
These qualities were obtained through years of hard work and adversity. By experiencing
wonderful victories and gut-wrenching losses, a player gains experience that can be used to
guide the unexperienced in times of total confusion and utter chaos. This ability to lead in these
types of situations in high school during games is put to use later in life when it matters most.
While there is some difference in these situations, leadership is often transferable in the aspect
that it can be applied anywhere. In football you also learn the value of teamwork and respect for
your other teammates. This is important in life because it can take you really far. Teamwork and
respect are often some of the most important things job interviewers look for besides leadership
capabilities.
In addition to discovering myself as a person, I have also learned how to use my writing
descriptively in order to give the reader a better view into the topic location and situation. This
has given me the ability to evolve as a writer in such a short period of time. Now that I know the
proper writing techniques and how to approach descriptive writing, I can now learn to further
myself in other areas, such as synthesis. Finally, I have learned so much more about the digital
world than I thought I would through this project. For example, the use of Windows Movie
Maker and the upload of the photo slideshow to YouTube were both first time experiences, and
moving forward I hope to utilize both platforms more often and to a greater extent.
In conclusion, in addition to learning more about the technology used to create the video,
I learned more about myself due to the compartmentalization of the experiences I had never
before thought back on. The Friday Night experience has taught me not only to give your very

best in every circumstance, but to also cherish every moment you are given, and dont take it for
granted.
