Donald Trump: Unfit for President
With the upcoming election in November 8th, 2016, Americans across the country are making
their final decisions for who to vote for: Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, who are the
presidential candidates. Soon, one of them will take the role as the president of the United States.
Being the head of state comes with numerous responsibilities that have to be accomplished in
order to make the country the best it can be. Each person may desire specific characteristics for a
leader that others may not agree with, but there are certain ones that many agree the leader must
have. As the president of the United States, one should portray honesty, respect, and leadership
to ensure success as a country.
Any person that decides to run for president should know that honesty is one of the most
important characteristics to become a successful president. The absence of honesty can damage
the citizens trust in their president, which can cause barriers. Without the citizens trust, the
president will fail at running the country and not meeting the peoples expectations. Donald
Trump is one of the presidential candidates that lacks honesty. According to Paul Krugman, a
New York Times writer, Trumps lies are constant, coming in a steady torrent, and are never
acknowledged, simply repeated (Krugman). The writer claims that Trump is one of those
politicians that talk about the great changes he will make in the United States, but does not
follow through with his plans or promises. Many of the times when people interview Trump,
they recall certain moments, but he denies them. Krugman realizes that all politicians are human

beings, meaning that they are not always to go along with what they claim to do, but his
concern is how much they lie, and how consequentially (Krugman). Based on what Krugman
commented, Trump has lied several times about his actions, but does not make the effort to admit
his lies. People who lie constantly should not run for president because they can lead the country
into adversity.
The president of the United States does not only represent the country, but the rest of the
people as well. Therefore, he or she has to make sure to possess the best image of himself or
herself to gain Americans support. When Trump announced his candidacy for president, he
wrote a speech in where he stated, When Mexico sends its people, they are not sending their
best They are bringing drugs. They are bringing crime. They are rapists (Moreno). Although
illegal immigrants commit unlawful actions, one being crossing the border illegally, they do not
deserve to be stereotyped nor judged. Trumps assumption degrades an abundance of Mexicans,
as well as other Latinos in Central and South America, who do not cause any type of harm to Mr.
Trump. Furthermore, Washington Post writer, David H. Fahrenthold, writes about the video that
was released about Donald Trumps inappropriate conversation about women, where Trump
confidently states, when you are the star, they let you do it. (Fahrenthold). Recently, Trump
claimed that no one has more respect for women than he does, which makes him contradict
himself and highlights his hypocrisy. People who practice hypocrisy struggle in attaining
peoples trust, which may result in the citizens opposing the president. After the video was
released, many, even some of his supporters, decided to turn against him, due to the offensive
comments made about women. A human being who desires to lead the United States should not
debase any person; he or she must demonstrate respect to every single individual, regardless of
sex, creed, race, or nationality. Presidents should not express favoritism, instead equality in order

to obtain the publics support. Due to Trumps deficiency of respect, people will most likely lack
respect towards him as well.
In order to be the president of the United States, candidates must demonstrate their leadership
skills to prove to Americans that they can achieve in guiding the United States through the right
path. Reiner Lomb shares, Mr. Trump has demonstrated little or no understanding of complex
global issues (Lomb). When it comes to interviews and debates, once he is asked about his
plans for intricate issues, his ignorance becomes visible. Trump is not prepared to become the
next president of the United States if he continues to ignore important topics that must be well
addressed in order to move on as a country. In addition, he adds that Trump lacks interest and
curiosity about the details (Lomb). Trump does not understand the complex issues because his
mind is not set upon his actions and physical plans to lead America. As a president, one must
properly explain his specific plans in order to combat different situations that the United States
may face in the day of tomorrow. Clearly, Trump fails at brainstorming detailed plans that are
needed for America to run as smoothly as possible. A president who lacks experience in
leadership cannot be given the control over a country.
Candidates who are running for president should have three characteristics: honesty, respect,
and leadership. Based on the research, Trump should not be qualified to serve as president.
Trump is a presidential candidate that lies about his actions, disrespects minorities, and lacks
leadership in complex issues. Although he is a human being, he is in need of more practice on
how to be a successful candidate as president. If a president misses one of those characteristics,
America may be heading the wrong direction.
