MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

Name: Lindsey Wallace

PART

A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order to achieve
required learning standards. Challenge: For an A provide an idea where the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or
above. To do this you will have to design a project where students engage in higher-order thinking and publish their work to an
audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way
to boost interest and
performance.

SS3H2 The student will discuss the lives of Americans who expanded peoples rights and freedoms in a democracy.
1.

Paul Revere (independence), Frederick Douglass (civil rights), Susan B. Anthony (womens rights), Mary McLeod
Bethune (education), Franklin D. Roosevelt (New Deal and World War II), Eleanor Roosevelt (United Nations and
human rights), Thurgood Marshall (civil rights), Lyndon B. Johnson (Great Society and voting rights), and Csar
Chvez (workers rights).

2. Explain social barriers, restrictions, and obstacles that these historical figures had to overcome and describe how
they overcame them.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: Once finished learning about historical figures, the students will participate in
groups to produce a video on Americans from a list. The groups will only discuss one person. The students will do their own
research as well as use information given in class. I will assist the students with any questions they have. They can work in
and outside of class to complete it. They whole project should take a week. Once completed, the students will present the
project in class and then publish the video to the class YouTube channel.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why? Student created video
files using YouTube or Movie Maker allows students to have an even greater authentic learning experience as these have the
opportunity to be shared with others, making the LoTi level increase drastically to a level 4 or 5. Students assume adult and
professional roles when creating these files as they import pictures they find important and useful, or add their own original
photographs. Students can also import audio that compliments the overall topic of their video which teaches creative
matching skills. When students create their own video files, learning is more authentic and creatively centered as students
exercise their freedom of choice and judgment skills. For all of these reasons, higher order thinking is required when
creating original video material. Students also use a variety of technological skills when creating their files as they practice
saving files, citing their sources, adding media, file sharing, copyright regulations, and embedding.
Importance of technology: Using the Windows Movie Maker allows the students to develop skills they could use later in
their career or other classes in school. It allows the students to take on a more adult role. Producing your own movie and
spending time to edit it gives the students a small advantage over others who might not have had the same opportunities.
Technology is always increasing and soon more and more students will be expected to have more knowledge on more of the
fore-mentioned advances. The project could be completed without using Movie Maker but the students would lose much of
the exposure to technology they could receive.
Inspiration (optional):
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: We wouldnt post any of the students personal information and all of the material
being presented would be accessible on the internet. Once posted to YouTube, the students videos and my channel can be
set to private, so where only selected people have access, to lessen the chances of a stranger viewing the class page.
