Internship:
This internship has had a large impact on me. I have learned that
you have to have a lot of positivity, patience, and communication skills
when working with young children. It is has been very rewarding seeing
all the progress the kids have made in such a short amount of time. I
hope to take all the skills I learned in my internship and have a class of
my own someday.
Information about my site:
I am currently an assistant teacher at Hillside Elementary in
Cottage Grove. I teach in Mrs. Schomers 2nd grade class of 26. I am
usually in their class for about an hour and a half. A normal day with
them usually consists of math, reading, writing, spelling and art. I
usually work with individuals or small groups that are struggling with
certain material. When Mrs. Schomer is teaching, I walk around the
room and make sure class is focused and on task. At the end of the day, I
stuff folders and help kids prepare to go home.
Community service:
As shown on my resume, I have volunteered numerous times at St.
Lukes Lutheran Church. I had the opportunity to greet people, serve the
food and I was also part of the cleanup crew. This was a great experience
because I got to meet a lot of kind people and I discovered more
volunteer options. Some of those included volunteering at the local food
shelf, Feed My Starving Children and visiting the elderly in assisted
living facilities.
My philosophy:
My philosophy is that a person who exhibits the following qualities
will be a successful teacher; positive in all situations, consistently

encouraging, does not display favoritism, and is compassionate toward

students.
College information:
I feel the University of Minnesota, Duluth is a good school for me
because it is ranked as one of the top schools in Minnesota and is known
for their strong education program. I am excited to attend this school
next year and peruse my goal of becoming a teacher.
Evidence:
These are the children in Mrs.Schomers second grade class. In just the
short amount of time I have been in their class, I have seen so much
improvement and I am proud of each and every one of them.

I work with kids one-on-one to help them complete activities such as

spelling tests, addition/subtraction worksheets, or other material that
tends to be challenging for them.

I walk around the room when kids are doing independent work and
answer questions or give help as needed.
