Method: - Tentative Method by Atomic Absorption Spectroscope Principle

Samples can be collected by draining a known volume of air through membrane of glass
fibre filters. The samples are ashed and extracted with a mixture of nitric and
hydrochloric acids.
Range and Sensitivity
This method is applicable to the determination of chromium in an optimum range of 0.1
to 20.0 ug of chromium/ml of solution. An atmospheric concentration of 0.005 ug of
chromium/m3 can be detected using the method as described for this concentration a
minimum air sample volume of 2000 m3 is recommended for samples taken on 8 x 10
filter with a high voltage samples.
Procedure
An 8 x 10 glass fibre filter (20 x 25 cm) of which a 7 x 9 (17.5 x 22.5 cm) section is
exposed on the high volume samples id divided into sections. The amount of a filter
used for the analysis of metals depends upon the ytpe of sample being prepared urban
or non-urban, individual or composite. Table given below for lists the amount of filter
used for each type of sample.
