Adolf Hitler, a dictator from 1889 to 1945, once said to conquer a nation, first

disarm its citizens. So how can we, as a nation, encounter gun control if we cant
seize the firearms? Gun control is known to be the regulation of manufacture, sale,
transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms by laws and policies.
Unfortunately, unlike Hitler the United States does not have complete control over
firearms. In our country there is an ownership of approximately 270
Million firearms by civilians and only 897,000 carried by police. Americas lack of
gun control or firearm regulation leads us to have disappointing statistics, such as
an average of 268 citizens shot every day. (bradycampaign.org). The statistics
stated are unacceptable and need to be altered. To make this change and decrease
in gun violence, certain actions need to be made.
Even though some people believe guns help protect the people in our
country, therefore they are needed. Tighter regulations are needed to
reduce gun related violence because better gun enforcements and
stronger gun laws, better background checks, and passing bans on assault
weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines.
It is necessary that we, Americans, have better gun enforcements and
stronger gun laws in order for us to obtain control over firearms. Gaining authority
over firearms will also give us control of our future. Our president, Barack Obama
also agrees that it will. President Obama stated A nation that cannot control its
energy sources cannot control its future (Barack Obama). Guns are the negative
energy source of which there is no control. This is shown in many events around the
world. For instance, weak gun laws allowed a man to enter a public elementary
school and murder twenty-seven people. Out of the twenty-seven people killed at
Sandy Hook, twenty of them were children. That one event alone should
communicate to the people that there needs to be a change. There needs to be a
change in the gun regulations and enforcements.

More statistics that display the imperfection in our gun laws our showed above in
pie chart. The graph shows the gun related violence in America over a year. The
data inside the pie chart helps communicate how weak and ineffective our current
gun laws are. These gun laws need to be improved and enforcer in order to be
effective and make change.
An expert named Michael Steele stated that you can have all the gun
control laws in the country, but if you dont enforce them, people are going to find a
way to protect themselves. (Michael Steele on brainy quote) This statement is
relevant because it also shows that our strict laws are not effective without being
enforced. To be specific, did you know that at least 89 people die every day from
gun related violence? (bradycampaign.org) Out of those 89 people an average of 31
are murdered. This fact is similar to the other facts because it as well shows
evidence of weak discipline over firearms. Furthermore, the yearly statistics on gun
murders is an average of 12,000 deaths every year just in the United States. Just
like the others, the every year statistics reveal dangers in our controlling of
firearms. The states with the greatest number of gun laws have a tendency to show
hardly any gun deaths. This is because the gun laws passed limit people's access to
firearms. The claim states what we can do in order to terminate or decrease the gun
violence in America. The reasons tell why we should make these actions. Finally, the
data shows statistics which agree that we need better gun enforcements and gun
laws. The overall connection between the arguments data, reasons, and claim, is
that an increase in gun laws will lead to a decrease in gun related deaths.
Firearms were originally created to kill not to protect. A firearm or gun is
defined as a weapon and a weapon is a thing designed and used to force physical
damage. Our second amendment is giving criminals the right to possess these
deadly weapons. With these weapons they have power over other citizens lives.
They have the option to pick and choose who dies and who lives around them. No
human being should be given the opportunity to decide someone's death. The
spreading of firearms threaten our society by causing an expansion in our murder
rate. Allowing an abundance of citizens to own a wide range of guns really leaves us
unarmed and exposed to danger.
In order for America to have gun control or absolute power over guns, we
need to upgrade our background checks. To do so we must keep firearms out of the
hands of criminals. We can prevent criminals from possessing firearms by enforcing
accurate background checks for every gun sale.
Criminals are still getting pass background checks. This shows us that our
background checks are weak and ineffective. In order to fill in the cracks we need to
stop all gun purchases that do not require a background check. Gun purchases such
as internet purchases, gun shows, private sales, and etc. I discovered an interesting
quote by Charles Schumer that supports the expansion of background checks. In
this quote he said all we ask for is registration, just like we do for cars. (Charles
Schumer on azquotes) In this quote Charles Schumer compares a car's registration
to the registration of a firearm. By comparing these two objects he shows support
towards the growth of background checks.

Americans consistently display support to expand background checks for gun

purchases. One event that happened which shows their support is in 2013, when
81% of the public favored to expand background checks and 73% desired for the
background checks bill to pass. A similar event that took place is when 85% of the
people, containing an abundance of both republicans and democrats recommended
making private sales and gun show sales subject to background checks. Private gun
sales positively do not require a background check, and because of this private sells
have become our largest gap in background checks. Making it easy for criminals to
access guns. Background checks are relevant because they reveal information that
tells if an individual is legally authorized to purchase a gun. Under the organization
of NICS, 91% of background checks reveal answers within minutes while
approximately 9% involve further investigation and review. The percentage that
requires further investigation shows weakness in our background checks and needs
to be terminated.
The claim states that our background checks are ineffective and need to be
improved. The reasons reveal why background checks need to be upgraded and
enforced on every gun sale, as well as what we can do to construct these changes.
The data shows information that assists the development of accurate background
checks. The general relationship between my data, reasons, and claim is that our
background checks for firearms are insufficient when it comes to investigating every
gun sale, so therefore advancements need to be made. On the contrary, the
enlargement of background checks will eventually forbid all illegal gun sales, even
private ones. Although the advancement of background checks will be costly, it will
produce a useful outcome. Currently, only guns purchased from federally licensed
firearm dealers require background checks. This allows any person that fails a
background check to still have enough options to buy a gun. The background check
system should apply to all sale. Making it impossible for a person to own a firearm
after they are denied by the check.
It is also important for America to place a ban on assault weapons and High
capacity magazines. These objects give easy and limitless access to guns and
ammunition, which is an endangerment to our country.
It is obvious that firearms are the absolute blame for gun violence. Without
these weapons, gun violence would cease to exist. If we really wanted our people
undamaged from gun violence, we would eliminate the real murderer and not the
victims. A quote stated by Eliot Spitzer that supports the development of gun
control says yes, people pull the trigger - but guns are the instruments of death.
(Eliot Spitzer on brainy quote) Eliot's quote tells us that people are not the blame for
the amount of gun violence. Even though they physically pull the trigger, firearms
are still the main cause of gun violence. The banning of guns or at least fewer guns
will show a positive decrease in the amount of gun related violence. Two things that
should not be in the reach of people are assault rifles and high capacity ammunition
magazine. This is said because there is a difference in needing something and
wanting something. No one needs that much protection. Assault rifles are clearly
not needed. High capacity ammunition magazines as well are not needed. These

magazines offer a wide range of dangerous weapons and a large amount of

ammunition which is too much access and power for people.
In 1994, the U.S. Assault Weapons Ban was passed. This Ban prohibited the
manufacture of certain assault weapons and ammunition magazines for people use.
The ban was passed by the U.S Congress and existed only for ten years. After the
ban ended in 2004 there was an increase in gun violence. It is important for the
present leaders to renew the ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines.
As well as make it permanent. Similarly, there was an attempted ban on certain
assault weapons. This ban was an amendment put forth by Dianne Feintstein and
was rejected due to the amount of votes, which was 40-60 votes. In the same way,
another amendment was defeated. An amendment that limited the size of
magazines to only 10 rounds. This amendment was passed by Frank Lautenberg
and Richard Blumentha and was denied by 46-54 votes. Both of these amendments
should have been passed to limit access to certain dangerous items.
The claim stated what should be banned, which is assault weapons and high
capacity magazines. The reasons tell why these objects need to be excluded from
our society. The data shows facts that support the future. Facts such as the previous
ten year ban that lasted from 1994 to 2004.
A different view about guns says, firearms were invented to help people
defend themselves and their property from threats. By our country enforcing
stronger gun laws that would eventually lead to the extermination of firearms in our
society. Taking away this protection would make the people defenseless and
unarmed.
A man named Prince Philip said a gun is no more dangerous than a cricket
bat in the hands of a madman. (Prince Philip on brainy quote) In other words,
firearms do not endanger us. In fact it is the person that owns it. Therefore,
eliminating firearms would not make a difference because they are not the real
threat. Getting rid of the criminals that possess guns illegally will be more effective.
Firearms are utilized approximately 80 times more to prevent crimes than they
are used to take lives. Every year, an average of 200,000 women in America use
guns to protect themselves against sexual crimes. The statistics show that firearms
are needed because they save lives more frequently than they take lives.
In reality firearms are possessed to kill. Occasionally they are utilized to save
people and to prevent crimes from happening, but overall they do more evil than
good. Which makes them a threat and useless. Therefore advanced gun laws need
to be enforced.
Another idea that is irrelevant and not needed is the expansion of the
background checks. Background checks for guns are presently accurate and do not
need to be enhanced. Improvements on background checks would be expensive
and not effective. The expansion of gun background checks still would not be able
to prevent individual firearm sales from occurring. For instance, a person is

prohibited from purchasing a firearm because their background is not pure enough.
That individual can still find access to guns through private sales.
On the contrary, the enlargement of background checks will eventually forbid
all illegal gun sales, even private ones. However it is correct that the advancement
of background checks will be costly, but it will produce a useful outcome.
Finally, a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines is useless.
Both bans are not valuable because they would not reduce gun related crimes and
deaths. The banning of High capacity ammunition magazines would show no
development in the process of controlling firearms. This ban was passed for 10
years. During the 10 years there was no positive impact showed, which explains
why the ban was not everlasting. Criminals rarely use assault weapons because
they are large, too heavy to carry, and difficult to conceal. Criminals prefer to use
handguns because they are small but power, which makes it easy to carry and
conceal. Assault weapons are so rarely used that the FBI do not bother to track
them. Since assault weapons are rarely utilized there would be no purpose of
banning them.
Assault weapons may rarely be used, but they are still a danger to our
society. The little amount of gun violence that these weapons add on to our gun
death statistics can and should be eliminated. When an individual possesses these
deadly weapons, they then have power and control over other peoples future. High
capacity ammunition magazines as well gives people too much control over others
and should be banned for our safety.
Assumptions are made that guns help protect the people in our country, so
guns are needed; but, tighter regulations are needed to reduce gun related violence
such as better gun enforcements and stronger gun laws, better background checks,
as well as bans on assault weapons and high capacity ammunition magazines. In
the past there were less regulations needed to reduce gun violence due to the low
quantity of gun related violence. Presently we are unsuccessful in controlling
firearms, so stronger gun laws and better background checks need to be enforced in
order to minimize the gun violence. The stronger gun laws and better background
checks will prevent certain individual from owning firearms. Some people believe
that in the future there will be a ban on assault weapons and high capacity
ammunition magazines to help decrease the gun violence. Under these conditions,
impressive change will be detected, such as a reduce in the amount of firearms
owned by civilians which will command a reduction in deaths committed by guns.
When all these changes are said and done we will have control over guns and our
society will be safe.
