The Beginning of the End
To those living outside of the United States, it may seem like the grass is greener on this
part of the world. Coincidentally, Americans think the opposite, they believe everywhere outside
of the U.S. is underprivileged and everyone else is unhappy. Individuals migrate to different
areas for different reasons but mostly brighter futures for not only themselves but their loved
ones. Enriques Journey written by Sonia Nazario is a great novel that portrays what one would
endure to reach prosperity. Sonia Nazario depicts a true story of a young man named Enrique and
his poverty life in Honduras. She also illustrated his journey to the United States to find his
mother who fled Honduras in order to provide a brighter future for her and her children. In
Enrique's Journey, Sonia Nazario claims 82% of mothers travel alone to the U.S. in order to
provide more for their children and families. Unfortunately, when most Americans see Hispanics
in their communities they automatically think of their presence in vain. Little do they realize
everything these individuals endured to reach this part of the world. The immigration policy has
been a huge debate during this 2016 presidential election. Regrettably for the Latino population
in the United States, Donald J. Trump won the presidency. His views on the immigration policy
or immigrants in general, are ignorant and many do not agree with his stance. Nevertheless I still
strongly believe that Hillary Clinton would have been the superior candidate because her
immigration policy wouldve been considerate, affordable, and respectable.

If Secretary Clinton were to have won the election her immigration reform would have
treated the Latino community with decency. Hillary wanted to introduce a pathway to full and
equal citizenship. She applauds the immigrants who come to the United States and work hard for
their families. Her immigration enforcement wouldve been humane, targeted, and effective.
Hillary wouldve focused her resources on detaining and deporting those individuals who pose a
violent threat to public safety. She believed in bringing millions of hardworking people into our
economy. The American people support comprehensive immigration not just because its the
right thing to doand it isbut because they know it strengthens families, strengthen our
economy, and strengthens our country. explains Hillary Clinton.
Had Secretary Clinton won, her plan for immigration would have more affordable.
Secretary Clinton wanted to protect our borders and national security which is somewhat close to
what Donald Trump wanted except he explains it like this; Were going to do a wall. Were
going to have a big, fat, beautiful door on the wall. Were going to have people come in, but
theyre going to come in legally. Mexicos going to pay for the wall. It has been estimated
the wall could cost $8 billion to $12 billion, and be made of precast concrete, and rise 35 to 40
feet, or 50 feet, or higher. Hes said the wall doesnt need to run the nearly 2,000 miles of the
border, but half of that because of natural barriers. He truly believes that the Mexican
government would pay for the wall. Instead of spending money on a wall thatll only separate us
from our closest ally; we should use the money on resources thatll help immigrants. Building up
a wall doesnt make us stronger; it just shows how scared we are of change. Michelle Obama
said it best during her speech at CUNY graduation, And here in America, we dont give in to
our fears. We dont build up walls to keep people out because we know that our greatness has
always depended on contributions from people who were born elsewhere but sought out this

country and made it their home Regardless if its the U.S. or Mexico, paying between 8 to 12
million dollars on a wall, would be pointless.
During this election, Donald Trump made it very clear on how he feels with the Latino
community. His main goal is to deport back all the immigrants so that jobs could open up for
Americans. Donald Trump attracted his voters with his fabulous idea to build a wall across our
southern border. Donald Trump took every single campaign and debate as a joke. Donald Trump
has belittled women and minorities. On October 7th a video emerged where Mr. Trump uses lewd
and sexually aggressive language to brag about groping and trying to have sex with women,
including someone who was married, in footage obtained by the Washington Post. Donald J.
Trump stated, "When Mexico sends it people, they're not sending their best. They're not
sending you. They're sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those
problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I
assume, are good people"Donald Trump also accuses Secretary Clinton of being crooked when
in fact he himself hasnt even paid taxes for the past 18 years. Donald Trump also accuses Bill
Clinton of being a woman abuser yet there have been 13 different women accusing him of
sexual misconduct. Mr. Trump promotes violence in his own rallies. Anyone who speaks against
him at rallies gets thrown out of the event and occasionally his supporters to hurt them
physically, emotionally and even mentally. Donald doesnt believe in the 1st amendment I
suppose. Unfortunately, the worst part about all this is this man won the 2016 election. This man,
who has never had any political or military experience, will now have access to our nuclear
codes. I bring up all these facts to introduce the argument, how on earth did Donald J. Trump win
the presidency? The answer is quite clear, white supremacy. Secretary Clinton never once
discriminated individuals during this campaign; if anything she gave minorities a voice, she

stood up for us and our future. Her intentions to modify the immigration policies were pure and
honest and compared to the mockery Mr. Trump claims is better.
I end with saying that I voted for Hillary Clinton not just because of her views on
Immigration but all of her views I totally agree with. Donald Trump has made a fool of himself
and his family during this entire election. The fact that he won shows how arrogant our country
is. He won by using racism against anyone who isnt white, demonizing women, telling lies, and
promoting violence. Most Americans are fearful of what is to come. However, I feel now more
than ever we need an action plan. Violence is not the answer; itll just prove everything Donald
has said about Hispanics true. Protesting is rich, as long as its peaceful. We have to accept the
fact that this man in our elected President. We have to join forces and wish him the best because
what he does or say affects us all. I just hope, for my future, he does a decent job as president.
Regardless, Im still with her.
