Past Continuous

-use for action which was in progress at a stated time in

the past. We don`t mention when the action started or
finished
(uywamy do dziaa, ktre byy w trakcie realizacji w
okrelonym czasie w przeszoci. Nie wspominamy
kiedy dziaanie zostao rozpoczte lub zakoczone)
-use for action which was in progress when another
action interrupted it. We use the past continuous for
action in progress (longer action)
(uywamy do dziaa, ktre byy w toku, kiedy inna akcja
przerwaa to dziaanie. Uywamy past continuous
dziaania w toku (dusze dziaanie)
-use for two or more simultaneous past actions
-to describe the atmosphere, setting, etc. in the
introduction to a story before we describe the main
events

-when we talk about about two events or actions that
went on over the same time period of past time
(kiedy mwimy o okoo dwch zdarzeniach lub
dziaaniach, ktre byy kontynuowane w tym samym
czasie przeszym)
- particularly in spoken English, when we want to
emphasise that repeated actions went on for a limited
and temporary period of time

-when we talk about something that happened
surprisingly often

-to describe the situation that existed at the time. The
event might have interrupted the situation, or happened
while the situation was in progress
