Today we will be starting Table Tennis.

Warm up:
- Have Class run around
boundaries of gym.
- Jumping Jacks
- Push ups
- Sit ups
Safety: We need to be aware of safety and
the environment that we are in. We need to
be in our own personal space and be
cautious of table tennis balls going into others
space.
Introduction: Today we will be learning the
rules of Table Tennis and we will also learn
the block shot.

Rules:

Game is to 21 pts. Win by 2

pts.
- All serves are delivered from
the right side
Each team serves 5 times in a
row then switch
- The ball MUST bounce on
your side of the table before it is
struck.
- Any ball that strikes any part of
the table is considered IN.
- The non-playing hand may not
touch, or lean on the table at any time.
Violation of this rule results in losing
that point

Block Shot:

Hold the paddle vertically

using the V grip


- Defensive shot
- Eyes on ball
- Body is parallel to the table
- Keep paddle flat (up and
down)
- Push the ball forward
- Follow through

Have student pick a partner someone they


work well with. Have them transition to the
tables.

Activity 1:

- Have each pair of partners go
to one table
- As one partner hits the ball to
the other, the other partner does the
block shot back
- Repeat 10 times then switch
roles.
Transition:
Have students leave their equipment at their
table and meet me back at the meeting place
to explain Activity 2.
Activity 2:

- Game play tournament


- Have each set of partners find
another set as an opponent.
- They play a game of Table
tennis while incorporating the block
shot as much as they can.
- The winning team moves to
the next table on the right.
- Invite the student to try to get
10 volleys in a row
- If it's too hard they can do 2
bounces

Transition:
Have students collect their paddles and
tennis balls and meet me at the meeting
place for a closure.

Closure:
- What are important cues to
remember while doing the block shot?
- Is the block shot an offensive
or defensive shot?
Transition:
Students go to locker room and change.
