Nominal: It is used for labeling variables without any quantitative value. When it is used for
identification, there is a strict one-to-one correspondence between the numbers and the objects.
i.e, 1) National Id. 2) Class roll. 3) Male/ female. 4) Jersey no. 5) Color of eyes. 6) Different types
of vitamins. 7) ZIP code. 8) Phone numbers. 9) IMEI number. 10) Platform number in a rail
station.
Ordinal: This scale signifies the order of values with importance but the differences between
each one is not really known.
i.e: 1) Quality ranking. 2) Team rank. 3) Socioeconomic class. 4) Defense rank. 5) Board stand in
ssc/hsc exam. 6) Selecting best player in ODI/TEST. 7) Selecting the richest person. 8) Quality
ranking. 9) Playing cards numbers. 10) Market position in terms of market share.
Interval: Interval scales are numeric scales in which we know not only the order, but also
Ratio: It allows the researcher to identify or classify objects, rank order the objects and
compare intervals or differences.
