Authors Note
This book was written to inform younger students about W.E.B Du Bois who was a teacher, writer, and a
political activist. W.E.B Du Bois was an important person to know from Reconstruction because he fought for
equal rights for everyone. He wanted everyone to be treated fairly. This story is about persistence. This relates
to my person because W.E.B Du Bois persisted through all the challenges that faced him. I am a hard-working
student at CLA. I chose to create this story because I didn't know that much about so I could learn something
new for myself.

W.E.B. Du Bois was born February 23, 1868 in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Du Bois lived in a mostly
white town and considered himself to be mixed. Du Bois went to school with whites. His teachers supported
him even though he was of darker complexion.

racism and segregation. These are things that he was introduced to when he was young. He earned his
bachelors degree from Fisk. Then he went Harvard University to get his masters degree.

Du Bois was a teacher at Atlanta University. Du Bois became well known when he disagreed with Booker T.
Washington. Du Bois disagreed with Washington because he wanted full equality for African Americans.
Booker T. just wanted just enough education for African Americans to get jobs. Du Bois believed that blacks
should get the same potential rights as whites.

Du Bois also fought for womens rights. He believed that women should have the same rights as men. In 1905
he began the Niagara Movement. The goal of this movement was to stop racial segregation and oppression.
This movement also fought against black leaders who didnt work towards full racial equality, such as Booker
T. Washington.
