Over 40 years have passed since Comem begun to work in the electrical field and it gives great importance to
innovations, researches and developments towards new products.
Comem takes the opportunity to exhibit at Coil & Winding Exhibition in Berlin in order to present to all transformers OEM, Utilities and Engineering Co. the new combined insulation bushing. This project meets the latest
market requirements regarding higher bushing performances and cost reduction.

WHY IS A COMBINED INSULATION BUSHING BETTER THAN A CONVENTIONAL PORCELAIN BUSHING?

A conventional bushing is composed by a conductor bolt (usually brass or copper), a porcelain insulating part and
an oil layer. The fixing system is usually made through a collar flange + some pressure pieces that have necessarily to be used in order to fix a porcelain flange to a metallic cover.
In Comem combined insulation bushing the conductor bolt is moulded inside an organic insulation block;
afterwards the primary insulation layer is protected by a silicone rubber coat.
Both combined and porcelain bushings must have proper mechanical, electrical and thermal characteristics to
withstand for many years any stress related to their transformer application. The combined insulation bushing is
a better choice thanks to its yield for each characteristic; see th efollowing summary table:

LIST OF THE MAIN ADVANTAGES OF A COMBINED INSULATION BUSHING:

An internal screen protects the electrical field created by the energised bushing; thanks to combined insulating
bushing design, the level of partial discharges complies with IEC 60137 specification. At the moment partial
discharges cannot be neither measured nor reduced in a porcelain bushing.
The combined insulation bushing has a capacitive outlet socket, throught which the tension can be constantly
monitored, like in a voltage transformer.
In case of accident or bushing breaking, the combined insulation bushing guarantees no oil leaking because
there is no oil inside. On the contrary the breaking of a porcelain bushing could cause the leaking of all oil contained in the conservator (unless somebody uses an automatic cut-off valve).
The dimensionale tolerances admitted in a combined insulation bushing are extremely smaller than the ones
admitted in a porcelain bushing.
The handling and transport of a combined insulation bushing is easier than the one of porcelain bushing because the insulation material is not fragile.
The combined insulation bushing, wich is composed by an organica mixture, has a higher temperature dissipation coefficient thanthe porcelain busshing, therefore it has a better cooling.
The combined insulation bushing has a simpler and faster assembling system than porcelain bushing because
there are no loose clamps and loose pressure pieces to be used. Furthermore the combined insulation bushing
is interchangeable to DIN 42538 - type D.
The combined insulation bushing does not need maintenance, as it has no sealing gaskets; except those palced
between tank cover and bushing clamp.
The combined insulation bushing has less number of items to be assembled;
Furthmore the combined insulation bushing has many further advantages by using the silicone rubber as main
outer insulation layer, such as: self-cleaning, flexibility, non fragility,...

HOW COMEM HAS DEVELOPED AND DESIGNED THE 24-36-52-60 kV - 3150A

72.5 kV - 2000A COMBINED INSULATION BUSHINGS
The chosen technical solution is an optimised merge among the following key features: mechanical and electrical
withstanding, selection of superior raw materials, porcelain bushings interchangeability and improvement of general safety related to bushing application.
In order to reach these targets the following simulations have been analysed and studied during the bushing design.
FEM structure analysis regarding to the max allowed cantilever load;
Analysis of the electrical field.

ANALYSIS OF THE ELECTRICAL FIELD

The simulation to finite elements analysis of the electrical field has been carried out by applying a 100kV continuos voltage. The maximum electrical field amplitude found is 4.7 kV/mm.
