IMPORTANT NOTES (Read Carefully!)
1. Speeches must be performed on the scheduled dates for a full grade. Half credit is awarded
for a speech that is given in the next class session, no credit is awarded after that.
2. The day you deliver a speech, you do not need to turn in a written version of that speech.
This is due at the start of the next class. The exception is the final project, the Radio Show
the Radio Show takes place on the last day of class, so all materials are due at that time.
Spelling and grammar are not part of these drafts, but the text should accurately reflect the
speech you delivered. All final written work must be typed and printed.
3. The Extemporaneous Speech does not include any written elements.
4. One instance of plagiarism will result in a ZERO grade for the assignment. A second instance
of plagiarism will result in an F for the course.
5. Absences will severely reduce your likelihood of passing the course.
6. You may use a laptop in class for note-taking or for reading assignments, but I will revoke
the privilege of using a laptop in class if your activity is unrelated to class content.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance is very, very important to success in this course. Given our limited parameters of
time, missing even one class makes things difficult. Lets try to be a team and think as a group
we can make these few weeks fun if were all in it together.

We only meet 10 times in total. Each class is worth 5 full points, or one-half letter grade. So, if
you miss the class when you are scheduled to give, for example, your Persuasive Speech, even if
you give your speech the next class, you would lose 5 points for the absence, and would only get
half-credit for the speech. In this case, this would be another 5 points. This 10 points represents
a full letter grade.

Please be here, be present, and be a part of the group.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY
Students are allowed to withdraw from a course during the first few weeks of classes (see
academic calendar for last date to withdraw). In order to receive a grade of W, students must
officially withdraw from a course by completing a withdrawal form. These withdrawal forms,
also called drop/add forms, are available in the Enrollment Services Office, at Presidents Place or
at the Plymouth front desk. Failure to attend classes does not constitute a course withdrawal.
Students who stop attending class, without officially withdrawing, will receive an earned final
grade, which may be a failure, if requirements have not been met.

MAKE-UP POLICY
In a short course like this, there should be no (and no need for) make-ups. If there is an
extraordinary circumstance, we can discuss it privately, but you must be pro-active.
