Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) in Hanoi, Vietnam. My

major is Electronics & Communications Engineering; and I am going to
graduate from PTIT at the end of this year. I came to Telecommunications
accidentally. My grandfather was a solider. I remember when I was six, he
said to me: Hey son, do you want to become a solider?. I was very
excited and said: Yes sir. One day, he took me to his military barracks
for the first time and showed me the life of soldiers. But I found that
the most impressive thing there is a walkie-talkie (What impressed
me the most was a walkie-talkie). It was 1999, mobile phones werent
popular yet in Viet Nam, so this device likes a nudge in my
curiosity (In 1999, mobile phones werent popular yet, so this device was
like a ) . My dream at that moment was I can (could) make this device
for my whole village, so we can (could) talk each other whenever we
wanted without moving too far. Although accidental, but I know
Telecommunications is my favourite field of study and will pursue
long-term. (although accidental, I know and I will make every effort
to realize this ambition)
My first biggest decision which is now setting up my career was
choosing Telecommunications as my field of study even though
my parents were against it. (At first, my decision to set up
Telecommunications as my major was strongly objected to by my
parents). I still remembered the day my mother and I had an argument
about what major I should learn. While she wanted me to pursue
Economics, which meant I could get a cushy job and earn much money, I

always wanted to study Engineering. I selected (decided on) science

technology because of two reasons: The first is today's world is
revolutionized by science and the second is there is always something
new to learn. I find scientific and research work very interesting and
attractive. I persuaded my parents for a couple of months that
Communication technology was my passion and up to now I still prove
them that it is the smartest thing I have ever done.
I enter PTIT, one of the best universities of Telecommunications to fulfil my
dream. I have learned thorough theoretical and practical knowledge in
(about) communication systems. To have in-depth knowledge in wireless
communication, I have jointed Broadband Communications Research
Group under the guidance of Professor Dang The Ngoc and Professor Le
Hai Chau at (in) the 3rd year. I am always thinking about connecting my
future life to science.
To be an expert in Wireless communication, I have made a plan for
achieving my long-term target. I accomplished some small goal which
supports my main goals which are initial steps on my path to the success.
I have a GPA ranked No. 2 in the class and I am awarded
scholarship from PTIT (I find it important to do well academically; thats
why my GPA ranks the second in my class and I am also awarded a
scholarship from my institute).

Moreover, I spend much time on

laboratory for researching (doing research in laboratory).

Finally, my efforts paid off. My paper has been accepted (has accepted
my choice). The day when I presented at Advanced Technologies for
Communications 2016 conference (ATC) was also the unforgettable day to

me. In this (those) short two days, I met a lot of professors from all
around the world and when talking to them, my mind was blown. I realize
that the world of technology is incredibly vast and what I have learned is
just the beginning. From that moment, I know that research in
development country is a launch pad for my career.
If I have higher level of academic (higher education) in an abroad
university,

can

get

deeper

insight

into

the

world

of

Telecommunication then come back to my homeland to contribute to

the development of ICT in Viet Nam. I also want to impart my knowledge
to the young generations of students. With this goal in mind, I choose the
Master program in Computer Science at George Mason University. In
George Mason University, well-known faculty members and top-rated
laboratories would provide me with an ideal environment in which I can
conduct cutting-edge research. Another reason for my choice is that
studying at George Mason University enables me to broaden my network
(of what ??) and cultural experience, and it also would be a great honour
for me to share the culture of my country to international friends.
Looking forward to my research, I looked at and am quite
interested in research activities of Assistant Professor Song Min
Kim. I have also paid serious (close) attention to the research topics
about wireless communications and in the main research projects of
Assistant Professor Song Min Kim, I am especially interested with (in)
research on Wireless Networks and Internet of Things. These applications
are very excellent and real (what do you mean ??) services. At present,
with the strong development of technology and media, wireless

communications is a research topic to enhance communication

quality, support applications as well as the strong growth ofthe
Internet (???). These research activities are consistent with my major and
research that I intended (to carry out). Therefore, with strong background
knowledge, I think I will study effectively in this research activity. And for
me, it would be a true dream to have an opportunity to study at
Professors laboratory.
A

long

and

bumpy

road

is

waiting

ahead

but

with

my

strong

determination, knowledge and forcefulness for doing research, I strongly

believe that I can solve (beat off) every challenge from graduate study
which demands a high level of academic background, determination and
personal sacrifice. I look forward to the opportunity to join the exciting
community at George Mason University and contribute more to the field of
communications.
