Dear Mr. Chairman,

I am Leo Gonzalez, a student from the Norwalk Early College Academy. I am writing to
you in order to inform you of the dangers that could potentially threaten the United States as we
elect our next president, Mr. Donald J. Trump. As Chairman of the Republican Party of
Connecticut I feel as though you and your party is very influential on the rest of the Nations
Republican Party.
Before I inform you about the dangers of putting Mr. Trump in the oval office I would
like to let you know what is at stake. In his presidential campaign, Donald Trump made
statements about how the Mexican people were rapists and drug dealers who came to this
country to steal and take the jobs of others. Mr. Chairman, I would like to inform you that I am a
illegal immigrant myself, a Mexican immigrant, to be specific. Never in my life have I touched
drugs or raped anyone, neither have my parents, or their parents before them. You see, I was
brought to this country when I was only 4 months old. This country is all I know and during my
time in this country I have done many things to help the community and not once have I broken
the law. One could argue that I did break the law when I crossed the border to enter the country
illegally, however that was not my choice. I was not the one who decided to cross the border, but
my parents. It was my parents who made the decision to put my life at risk in hopes that I would
have a better life. I am not telling you this so that you have pity in me, but to inform you that
their are millions in this nation just like me. Millions of immigrants who crossed the border and
put their life on line in hopes of a better life. Millions of people, who are treated inhumanly
because of the fact that they made a decision that they wanted a better life. These are the people

who will be most affected by the decisions that Mr. Trump will make. These are the people that
will be most affected by your partys decisions in the next couple of days.
Although Donald Trump is a remarkable man with extraordinary talents in business, I
know I speak for those who are well educated on the topic when I say that he is incapable of
handling the presidency in the sophisticated manner that is needed. As a business-man, he has
filed Bankruptcy multiple times. I do understand that he has also been very successful in many of
his affairs with billions of dollars on the bank to back him up on that, however, with the United
States government one only has one chance, a chance that can make or break the nation. As
President Mr. Trump will not have a chance to scrap everything and start all over like he has
done with many of his businesses.
Many may argue that he is a great negotiator and that he can boost the economy. I can see
where these people are coming from when they say this, however, there is more than meets the
eye when it comes to economic issues. In his presidential campaign, Donald Trump has made
many promises which contradict his so called knowledge on the topic of the economy. Mr.
Trump had promised to rebuild the economy and throw out illegal immigrants from the nation.
There has been much research done on this topic and, as it turns out hosting illegal immigrants in
this country actually benefits the U.S. On the topic of contribution, illegal immigrants pay taxes,
whether it be the ones that are withheld by their employers in each check or sales tax, almost as
much as regular citizens. Not only do they contribute to the nations economy, but they do not
receive government aid such as food stamps and housing. It can be noted that an estimated 13
billion dollars was put forth by illegal immigrants to government taxes in 2013. These statistics
prove that illegal immigrants help the United States economy by putting forth money into the tax
system, money which they cannot benefit from.

Mr. Romano, I would like to thank you for your time you spent reading and considering
my letter. Given the information I have provided you with, your partys values, Mr. Trumps
character, and the benefits of keeping illegal immigrants, I urge you to try to convince your party
to vote against Mr. Donald Trump when it comes time for the electoral college to vote for our
nations 45 President.

Regards,
Leonel Angel Gonzalez

The letter was made in order inform and persuade the Chairman of the Republican Party
of Connecticut to denounce Donald J. Trump as the Republican candidate and convince his
colleagues of the party to change their vote on Mr. Donald Trump as President. Much thought
went into who I should target and what I needed to inform them of. Also, I needed to use proper
ethos, logos and pathos to try to convince Mr. Romano to denounce and refuse to vote for Mr.
Donald Trump.
I decided to use the Chairman to influence the rest of the Republican Party because of the
historical significance that Connecticut had imposed on the results of outcomes in the United
States. One of them being at the very beginning of the Nation with the compromise. The
chairman of the Republican Party of Connecticut is a very influential role in the party's inner
structure. That being said it is safe to assume that if I were to impact his opinion as chairman, the
ideas would trickle down into the rest of the party. Their after, if the rest of the Nations saw the
difference in opinion about naming Mr. Donald Trump as President than they might vote against
him or consider voting for someone else.
In writing this letter I had one goal in mind, inform the Republican Party about the
dangers of naming Mr. Trump as president then convince them to do otherwise. In trying to
convince Mr. Romano, Republican Party Chairman, by using ethos, logos and pathos. When
using pathos I tried to explain my personal situation, what has happened in my life and explain

that I am not the only one who Mr. Trump is trying to kick out of the nation but millions of
others like me as well. When using logos I would explain how immigration actually benefits the
economy, even though Mr. Trump has tried so hard to argue otherwise. When explaining ethos I
elaborated on how the only logical way to come to a good resolution on is if both parties come
together to compromise and Mr. Trump was not the candidate who could provide an open mind
to the ideas that the Democratic Party would bring forth if they were to try to compromise. These
are the ways that my letter would make them understand that allowing Donald J. Trump to take
office would hurt The United States.
