Jessica Ramsey becomes

Labette Centers
Behaviorist
Jessica Ramsey, LMSW,
will move into the position of behaviorist
and will be stationed at
Labette Health Family
Practice Clinic, working
hand in hand with the
medical professionals
in that department. Her
first day being stationed
at Labette Health will be on Tuesday January 17th, 2017.
This form of integrated care is a cutting
edge approach to patient care that integrates both physical and behavioral health.
As described by the Sunflower Foundation,
Integrated health care is the systematic
coordination of primary care (medical) and
behavioral health services. Medical and behavioral health problems often occur at the
same time. Simultaneously providing relevant health care services has been shown
to yield the best results and are welcomed
by patients.
Kansas, with the assistance of the Sunflower Foundation, has been a leader in the
integrated care initiative. The process that
Labette Center will use to provide this care
will be to utilize the behaviorist stationed
at Labette Health Medical Office Building
to see patients that may also be in need of
behavioral health care. This person will be
available to see patients as needed when
they visit a provider at the medical facility. This provides the opportunity for two

Williams and Collins Become Master Trainers,

Offer More Classes
Labette Health and Labette Center for Mental Health Services, in partnership with the Kansas Foundation for Medical Care (KFMC,) have
been partnered in an endeavor to provide a free workshop series for
people living with chronic illness, as well as their caregivers. The sixweek workshop series helps people gain self-confidence in controlling
their symptoms, better manage their health and lead a fuller life.
Deb Williams from Labette Center for Mental Health Services and
Shellie Collins from the Labette Health Rector Center have worked together to provide this program to the community for the past two years.
Last fall both became Master Trainers for the Chronic Illness course,
giving them the ability to train new trainers. They have completed a
four day leader training in which they trained a total of six new group
leaders for Labette County. With these new trainers, Williams and Collins have scheduled three workshops for Chronic Illness to begin in
January. All three classes will be held at the Rector Center located on
the Labette Health campus. Zero Meetings, will be held on January
11th at 3pm, January 12th at 2pm and January 14th at 8am. Classes
include six weeks of sessions in addition to the Zero meeting.
Due to the interactive nature of the workshop series, space is limited.
Individuals and caregivers interested in attending should pre-register
by contacting Deb Williams at LCMHS, 620-421-3770 or Shellie Collins at the Rector Center, 620-820-5230.

Labette Center Receives Grant

From the Kansas Health Foundation
Labette Center for Mental Health Services (LCMHS)
is excited to announce that a grant has been awarded from the Kansas Health Foundation to expand
our Mental Health First Aid program to residents of
our surrounding communities, including Altamont,
Bartlett, Chetopa, Edna, Mound Valley, and Oswego.
Through this grant funding, the course can be provided in the surrounding communities and will be able to
be provided free of charge.
Mental Health First Aid is a ground breaking program
geared toward helping individuals who may be in the
midst of a mental health crisis or the onset of a mental
illness. The course uses the same basic principles as
Red Cross First aid and applies them to individuals
suffering from mental illness. In the 8 hour course,
participants learn how to identify when someone may
be suffering from a mental illness and how to get the
person to the professional help they may need. The
course also teaches using self-help strategies to assist
a person suffering from mental illness. A key concept
of the course is to remove stigma associated with mental illness and help individuals understand and accept
mental illness more readily. The Center offers two
main versions of the course, the Adult version and the
Youth version. The adult version is geared towards
adults who work with or could assist other adults who
may be suffering from mental illness. The youth version is geared towards adults who work with or could
assist youth 12-18 who may be suffering from a mental illness. Additionally, LCMHS trainers are certified to teach other versions including Public Safety,
