FCE 421: FLUID MECHANICS IIB

S. K. NGARI

COURSE GENERAL INFORMATION

Objectives
Develop insight into the basic physical principles that
govern the water flows in open channels
Develop analytical and mathematical skills needed to
describe and predict open-channel flow behaviour using
modern computational tools
Develop an ability to effectively to effectively apply these
principles and skills to the engineering solutions of
problems in open-channel systems
At the end of the course the student will be able to:

Estimate flows using Manning's equation

Apply Froude number and specific energy relationships
Predict hydraulic jump
Obtain flow measurements in channels
Describe backwater curve

Course Content
