Why doesnt the Jamaican government address the issue of lotto scamming?

Why waste time not

addressing the problem directly? It is long overdue for the government to plug the issue of lotto
scamming in Jamaica once and for all which is causing severe strain on the country of Jamaica.
According to Anderson (2010) a Financial Analyst in the US State department of finance defined
lotto scamming as an illegal activity carried out by individuals who make unattainable proposed
promises to persons with the aim of soliciting funds. In every corner of Jamaica the only thing
you hear rolling off the tips of many citizens tongue is the annoyance of persons calling their
phone that they won a cash prize. It is rather strange why the government seems not to be doing
all in its powers to curb the high incidence of lotto scamming across the country. The
government of Jamaica is not doing enough to address the high incidence of lottery scamming in
Jamaica jobs are needed, its too lengthy for offender to be brought to justice and the government
need to monitor the things they have put in place.
In order for the Police Officers o effectively handle lotto scamming they need all the relevant
resources in order for them to effectively carry out their duties. How will it be possible for law
enforcers in the country to effectively serve the nation without the desired resources? If the
government does not provide the relevant resources to the law enforcers how will it be possible
for them to reduce the high incidents of lotto scamming? Its not a case where some resources
werent put in place but it is not adequate to fight lotto scamming and the resources are limited.
Public Commentator Wilfred Davis mentioned that the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is
short on vehicles and other vital resources to handle lotto scamming in Jamaica. He further went
ahead stating that the amount of vehicle distribute among the divisions across the country is not
enough for effective Policing to take place. Do you think it is possible to bring lotto scamming
under control with the limited resources that the Police Officers have to their disposal? It is not

going to be possible with the little resources that are available to the Police Officers by the
government to effectively bring the act of lotto scamming under control.
There are sanctions available for persons who are involved in lotto scamming or even caught
with any material related to lotto scam. The next question is how long does it take for these
sanctions to be executed? The laws and sanctions so it shouldnt be taking the court so long to
hand down a judgment on someone who is in breach of the lotto scam law? The time it takes for
the court to bring a case to the fore front takes too which will influence the result f the court.
Think about the Police capturing a scammer who is to appear in court which takes nearly one
year for the case to begin which will take another year for it to be completed. In a situation like
this the court has given the offenders enough time to influence all the witnesses or persons
testifying against them in court. Attorney-at-Law Hopeton Wilson expressed similar concerns as
he believes the length of time it takes for a case to be mentioned in court and finish away with is
too long. He further lamented that it gives offenders an opportunity to either get themselves in
more corruption by paying off witness not to appear in court or to change their statement on the
day of court in order for them to get away. The Police Officer who has the case in court might
just forget all the details about the court due to the length of time that it takes to be mentioned in
court and during crossed examinations from these scammers legal representation the Police
Officer might just find him or herself out of words to support his claim.
The government of Jamaica has done some things in terms of addressing the high incidence of
lotto scamming. In some areas of Jamaica the government build community centre according to
the Social Development Commission with the aim of getting residents of the community
engaged. The building of community centre and other infrastructure to get person engaged is
good because once the youths in particularly is engaged in meaningful activities lotto scamming

can be contain. The government has done something but it is not doing enough, why build a
lovely community centre for the youths in a community and everyday it is closed? Why build
training centre saying that you are addressing lotto scamming and never a day a trainer is there to
do some training? Having a community centre or a training centre in the community out of use
will only make matters worse for the community because the residents might find it as an area to
congregate and be engaged in wrongful activities.
The Jamaican government has put some efforts forward to address the high incidence of lotto
scamming in Jamaica. The law enforcers have to contend with a lack of resources as they fight
this monster which is taking over the entire country. The main resource shortage they law
enforcers encounter is the lack of adequate vehicle to mobilize themselves across the
communities on patrol. The time it takes for court cases to be settled in court is another signal
that the government is not addressing the high incidence of lotto scamming. These cases sit too
long in case until some substantial evidence that could be used in the court against these
offenders can no longer be found or it cant be used. The time cases take to settle in court need to
speed up because it gives the offenders all the time needed to run away as soon as these
scammers are caught immediately they should be tried and a judgment handed down to them.
The government should not just do something so it can be in the public eyes that they have done
something showing that they are trying to address the high incidence of lotto scamming. The
government should ensure whatever they do they maintain and support it, it shouldnt be a case
that the government trying out a strategy and they just leave it like that t survives on its own. The
government should get itself on board in ensuring that whatever they have done is well
monitored.
