Dear Missionaries:
The LDS Hymn Book
explains that, some of the
greatest sermons are
preached by the singing of
hymns. I agree so today I
sermonize on the subject
of consecration through
the use of hymns. It is no
secret, hymns play an
essential role in
spirituality, revelation, and
conversion. They teach
profound doctrines in
memorable and beautiful
ways. President J. Reuben
Clark Jr. said, We get
nearer to the Lord through
music than perhaps
through any other thing
except prayer.
Many a hymn preaches the
eternal doctrine of
consecration. Most often
consecration is described
in lyrics that teach of
letting our will be
swallowed up in the will of
God. (see Mosiah 15:7)
Hymn after hymn pleads
for the wisdom and power
to understand and do
Gods will. The hymns
impart a cosmic fact often
taught by Elder Neil A.
Maxwell: Only by aligning
our wills with Gods is full
happiness to be found. A
few examples from
familiar hymns will
demonstrate.
As Now We Take the
Sacrament
As now we praise thy

name with song,

The blessings of this day
Will linger in our thankful
hearts,
And silently we pray
For courage to accept thy
will,
To listen and obey.
We love thee, Lord; our
hearts are full.
We'll walk thy chosen
way.
How Great the Wisdom
and the Love
By strict obedience Jesus
won
The prize with glory rife:
"Thy will, O God, not
mine be done,"
Adorned his mortal life
Dear to the Heart of the
Shepherd
Green are the pastures
inviting;
Sweet are the waters and
still.
Lord, we will answer thee
gladly,
"Yes, blessed Master, we
will!
Make us thy true
under-shepherds;
Give us a love that is deep.
Send us out into the desert,
Seeking thy wandering
sheep."
How Great the Wisdom
and the Love
By strict obedience Jesus
won
The prize with glory rife:
"Thy will, O God, not
mine be done,"
Adorned his mortal life

We see a compelling theme

of humility, submission and
sacrifice in these eloquent
words. All of these are
required of a consecrated
missionary. We must be
ready to accept Gods will
and walk His chosen way.
We need to adorn our lives
with the constant refrain
Thy will, not mine be
done. Our hearts need to be
trusting and faithful - set on
becoming what He wants us
to become. We must more
frequently, more
emphatically and more
gladly respond to the call of
missionary duty with a
robust: Yes, blessed Master,
I will!
Sisters and Elders, please
remember these words of
Elder Maxwell:
The submission of ones
will is really the only
uniquely personal thing we
have to place on Gods altar.
The many other things we
give, are actually the
things He has already given
or loaned to us. However,
when you and I finally
submit ourselves, by letting
our individual wills be
swallowed up in Gods will,
then we are really giving
something to Him! It is the
only possession which is
truly ours to give!

Sister Clarks SerMOM

Dear Awake & Refreshed Sisters and Elders:
There has been a growing number of missionaries who have difficulties sleeping. The problem includes difficulties related to the amount,
quality, or timing of sleep.
The following symptoms suggest a sleep problem:

Waking up feeling mad or irritated

Frequently feeling fatigued or depressed

Taking more than 30 minutes to fall asleep

Waking up frequently during the night

If you have trouble sleeping,

Falling asleep at inappropriate times.

please try these suggestions. If

Lacking energy to do the things one desires.

you continue to have a difficult

Frequently having nightmares or sleep terrors

time sleeping, give me a call.
What to do:

Maintain a regular sleep schedule. Get up on time, regardless of how poorly you slept.

If you cant fall asleep after 30 minutes, sit up in bed and read until drowsy.

Establish a bedtime routine that is relaxing.

Learn relaxation skills such as deep breathing, relaxing muscles, and visualizing calming scenes. (I have a handout if you need one).

Try mental activities that are routine and boring, such as counting or mental singing.

Resolve concerns: Identify, think through, accept, and resolve worries, fears and concerns.

Listen to mission approved music and audio. This might include relaxing music, nature sounds, or verbal
relaxation descriptions.

If you wake up during the night, get up after 10 to 15 minutes and read or write in your journal.

Be cautious about sleep medication. Consult with Sister Clark before using.

Avoid extended daytime naps lasting more than 15 to 20 minutes.

Avoid sugar or exercise for an hour before bedtime.

Be happy and optimistic.

Sister Clark

Our investigator is Catholic and very shy person. She doesnt like to pray and before we met her she knew nothing about prayer. We taught
her about prayer and said she needs to pray every single day with a sincere heart and real intent and not by memorizing. We shared a few
verses in 2 Nephi where its says there that the Spirit teacheth a man to pray, but the devil teacheth not a man to pray. While we explained to
her about prayer I felt the Spirit guide us to emphasize it properly. We invited her to offer a closing prayer. At first she dont want to pray, but
we taught that we need to have more faith to overcome the doubt in our hearts. And after that she offered a prayer. It was a very wonderful
experience. After she prayed her countenance was changed. She smiled with us and she was thankful for what weve taught to her.
