Indonesian Army (or commonly abbreviated Army or TNIAD ) is one of the branches of the armed forces and is part of
the Indonesian National Army (TNI) in charge of the defense
operations of the Republic of Indonesia on land.

Army was formed on October 5, 1945 in conjunction with the


military establishment which at its inception was named
People's Security Army (TKR) .
Army headed by a Chief of Army Staff (Army Chief of
Staff), which became the supreme leader at the Army
Headquarters (MABESAD). KASAD currently held by Gen.
Mulyono.
The strength of the army currently consists of two main
command (Kotama) combat is Kostrad and Kopassus . In the
region the army has 13 Regional Military Command , 44th
Military Command that each region has its own combat unit.
In addition to the main command of combat, the Army also
has command of the primary education that educates ofcers
and potential ofcers at the Military Academy , Secapa ,
courses there and the main command and doctrine
development is Kodiklat .

History
Forerunner of the birth of the TNI at the beginning of the independence of
Indonesia starting from the incorporation of armed force coming from the
leaders of armed ghters, either from the upbringing of Japan ( PETA ), the
Netherlands ( KNIL ), as well as those coming from the camp of the people.
The result of this merger resulted in an institution that bermana People's
Security Agency (BKR), which was then successively renamed the People's
Security Army (TKR), Army of Salvation of the People (TKR), Army of the
Republic of Indonesia (TRI) and the Indonesian National Army (TNI) ,
During the New Order, the Indonesian National Army (TNI), combined with
the Indonesian National Police (Polri). This merger to form a body with the
name of the Indonesian Armed Forces (ABRI). Based on MPR Decree No. VI

Maintaining the integrity of the nation


TNI together with the people carrying out operations in the country such as the crackdown on the PKI in the
Madiun in 1948 and the September 30th Movement of 1965, the rebellion DI / TII in West Java, Aceh , South
Sulawesi, the PRRI in West Sumatra, Permesta in Manado, Kahar Muzakar in South Sulawesi, PGRS / Paraku
in West Kalimantan, Republic of South Maluku in Ambon, GPLHT in Aceh, the Board of Ganda in South
Sumatra, and OPM in Irian. This struggle is carried out in the interest of saving the nation and state as well as
sticking to the principles for the sake of the integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.

Duties
As part of the military, in accordance with article 7, paragraph (1) of Law No. 34 of 2004 , the principal task of
the Army is to uphold state sovereignty, defend the territorial integrity of the Republic of Indonesia based on
Pancasila and the Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia Year 1945, as well as protecting all the people and
the country of Indonesia from threats and harassment against the integrity of the nation and the state.

Organizations
Army Headquarters are under coordination with the TNI Headquarters. Tersenior ofcers of the Army, Chief of

TNI Commander .
