results and compiled new tables of the Sun and Moon. He also studied the movement of the
Suns apogee, which is now refered to as aphelion, and calculated the value of precession as
55``. He also introduced the use of sines in trigonometrical calculations and also did some
work on tangents.
Albohazen Haly He was an Arabian philosopher and astrologer whose work
`Praeclarissimus liber in Judiciis astrorum` - a treatise on the fixed stars brought about the

Arudha Lagna A term used in Jaimini Astrololgy. The lagna pada is known as Arudha
or Aroodha pada. Count as many signs from lagnesh as lagnesh is away from lagna. This is
arudha or pada lagna.

Arudha Lagna/Lagnarudha Arudha of Bhavas A term used in Jaimini Astrololgy. Arudha of all houses are
calculated by counting as many signs from the house lord as he is away from the house
concerned. E.g. to find arudha of 2nd house, see how far away 2nd lord is from 2nd house.
Arudha of 2nd house is as many houses away from lord of 2nd as the lord of 2nd is away from 2nd
house. Briefly, count from the bhava to the sign where its lord is posited and then count from
this lord further to get bhava pada. In case of Aquarius and Scorpio signs, both have two
lords, so the stronger of the two planets is to be considered to reckon bhava arudha. This
strength is to be seen as is determined while calculating chara dasa.
Arudha of Planets A term used in Jaimini Astrololgy. In the same way as for bhava
padas, as far away from a planet is his own sign, the house so far therefrom is to be taken as
pada or arudha of the planet concerned. If a planet owns two signs, or if a sign is owned by 2
planets (Scorpio & Aquarius), then the pada should be calculated on the basis of the stronger
sign & stronger planet.

year length of the calendar thus became 365.2425, the error being only one day in 3300 years.
In Great Britain, it was officially introduced in 1752 when the error accumulated to 11 days
and in that year 3rd September of Julian Calendar, Thursday was designated as the 14th
September of Gregorian Calendar, Thursday. At the same time in Great Britain the beginning
of the year was changed from march 25 to January 1, commencing with the year 1752. In
some countries the Gregorian calendar was not adopted until the present century.
As such the century years 1600, 2000, 2400 which are divisible by 400 are leap years
whereas the century years 1700, 1800, 1900, 2100 although divisible by 4, are not leap years.

Ascension - The zodiac takes 24 hours to ascend on the eastern horizon, meaning thereby
that on an average it takes 2 hours for one sign to ascend. This is true at the earths equator.
As we move towards North or South of equator, the duration of ascension of some signs takes
more than 2 hours while others take lesser time. Signs taking more than 2 hours to rise
completely are known as Long ascension signs and those taking less than 2 hours are short
ascension signs and the rest are of medium ascension. This is due to the obliquity of earth and
the latitude of the place. Different signs have different ascensions at different places, which
gets reversed in southern- hemisphere.
Ascension Long (signs) See ascension and long ascension signs.
Ascension, Right See Right ascension.
Ascension, Short (signs) See ascension and short ascension signs.

the twelve signs for places situated at different latitudes. It is 0 for all the places situated on
the equator. It is same in respect of the same sign, for places situated in the same latitude.
Ascensions Long and short. Though each sign is 30, yet this term is used to show that
some signs take long duration to rise in the East and some signs a shorter period.
Asha saham - A concept exclusive to Tajik and to check the possibility of fulfillment of
hopes and anticipations during a particular year. For the day-time Varsha-pravesh, formula is:
Saturns longitude Venuss longitude + Ascendants longitude. For night time varshapravesh formula is : Venuss longitude Saturns longitude + Ascendant. Further amendment
shall be that if while tracing from planet B to planet A, as the houses are counted in that
particular chart, we do not cross over the cusp of the Ascendant, 30 must be added to the final
result, which is then posted like any other planet and analysed according to its placement,
conjoinment and aspects with other planets etc.
