seat of government and the strongest technological force. The star, Pylos, is orbited by three planets. 1: Vulcan. The closest to its parent star, this small planet boasts an extremely hostile environment, ravaged by solar storms intense heat and magnetic anomalies. Rich with various metals and radioactive elements, Vulcan has become the prime source for raw materials in the cluster. There are two habitable zones near the poles, both of which are little more than industrial wastelands. There are very few civilians, as most Inhabitants are researchers or workers for the major corporations.
2: Poseidon Prime, a water world
and the jewel of the cluster. The surface of Poseidon is kept heavily restricted. Observations from orbit reveal a few archipelagos and at least five free-floating superstructures. Very few know more of the surface. Illicit orbital photography has revealed a sizable population of a species of medium sized cetaceans believed to be ancient Terran dolphins. The numbers documented seem to indicate a population in excess of most human populations in the cluster. The planet is girdled by a Ringworld construct at the equator know as The Crown. The Crown: The seat of human habitation in the system. The Crown supports the
governmental and financial
structure of Poseidon. Technology found on The Crown far outstrips the capabilities of any other system. The richest and most powerful in the cluster make The Crown their home. Due to its position around Poseidon Prime, The Crown has a unique day/night cycle. A day lasts 24 hours with 16 hours of night and 3 hours of day. These 4 hours are broken by a 4 hour period of darkness known as Bluenight which is caused by the planet obscuring Pylos during the period of 10 am to 2 pm. Inhabitants of The Crown are pale skinned with dark hair. Their eyes appear to be completely black, due to extreme dilation, and they must wear eye protection during daylight hours. They are derogatorily known as vampires among off-worlders. There exists a certain amount of mystery when it comes to governance of the cluster. The rulers of the Poseidon system are the Council of Speakers. This council has never been seen by an off-worlder, and its membership is never divulged. There is a rumor that The Council of Speakers is not human at all, but is in fact composed of the most ancient of the grey cetaceans on the surface. These rumors are met with silence from The Crown.
Almost every major corporation
in the cluster holds an office in the urban segments of The Crown. These offices are exclusively staffed by Poseidian workers and administration. This has allowed the Council of Speakers to exert an astonishing amount of control on trade and travel. Astute visitors to The Crown may note that there is gravity of exactly 1G on the surface of the ring. The ring remains geostationary in its position, which is nowhere near enough centrifugal force to provide this. It is theorized that a source of artificial gravity exists within the ring, however no source has been found. This phenomenon remains unexplained. 3: The gas giant Cibus. This gas giant is the primary source of reaction mass ship fuel in the system, as well as the majority of the cluster. It is otherwise unremarkable. It is orbited by two moons. The Moon, Gateway: This planetsized moon is the primary spaceport of the system. The surface is composed of one continuous city broken up into segments. This moon supports a massive human population mostly composed of travelers and immigrants from outsystem. Gateway is reminiscent of most heavily urbanized cities, however the level of technology present varies drastically from sector to sector. Crime is a
regularity in all but the highest
levels. Council Forces tend to turn a blind eye to happenings on the surface, though they doggedly police the orbital spaceports. There is a Gateway police force, but they are understaffed and ill equipped. If you want something, you can probably find it on Gateway. The Moon, Haven: This planet sized moon is heavily forested and supports the majority of the
indigenous human population in
the Poseidon system. Resembling a suburban culture. Havenites tend to a more gregarious and laid back attitude. Tech level 3 is persistent across Haven, with only rare instances of level 4 tech in evidence (Mostly medical). 75% of Council Forces are recruited from Haven, and the population is proud of its military and police heritage.
