Question 1
a- Draw and explain whenever possible the PLC block diagram architect.
b- In PLC the main CPU is isolated physically from the input/output modules.
Draw and explain such isolation.
When a digital pulse passes through the light-emitting diode, a pulse of infrared radiation is
produced. This pulse is detected by the phototransistor and gives rise to a voltage in that circuit.
The gap between the light-emitting diode and the phototransistor gives electrical isolation but the
arrangement still allows for a digital pulse in one circuit to give rise to a digital pulse in another
circuit
c- The circuit shown performs manual operation for a 3phase AC motor with
the following components.
- C: Contactor.
- OL: Voltage Overload
- Start Push Button
- Stop Push Button
- 3 phase AC 380V Motor
Complete the circuit wiring diagram shown below in case it is controlled and
operated with PLC.
i- Objects are transferred on a conveyor belt; the PLC receives high signals
as the objects passes under a series of 3 proximity sensors used to
identify the material type, as shown below.

Solution
The sensors allocation doesnt satisfies the object size, for example if the
object type is steel the three sensors cannot give the high signal at the same
time
Question 2
Part A
For PLC automated gate control system, the operation of the sliding gate, is
automatically activated such that the Gate open and close from any direction for
only predefined cars.
Distribute the components listed in the table below on the figure above.
Note: The listed components are considered the minimum requirements for the
PLC operation.

A control panel will include the PLC and the controlling components such
as relays and contactor.
An electric motor will control the opening and closing of the sliding gated
via toothed wheel rotated on a toothed rail.
Optical sensors of type transmit/receive will be placed at the gate two
sides to indicate the car arrival from both sides.
To identify the car that will be allowed to pass two optical sensors of type
retro reflective will be placed in allocation at the middle of the door at both
sides; the sensor reflector will be installed on the car bottom side of its
bumper to reflect back the received optical array.
Audio and warning signal during the door opening and closing will be
placed on the door right side up position.
