Story:

It was midnight when a womans scream woke the whole house. Carla was planning
to grab a bottle of milk in the fridge when she saw something odd in the kitchen.
Her fellow house mates arrived at the scene and were equally stunned at what they
perceived. It was the landlady lying on the floor near a shattered flower vase. The
head of the lifeless woman was dripping with blood while her clothes were still dry.
Carla immediately called the cops to request for an investigation. While the 3 girls
were waiting in the living room, Tiffany, without any hesitation, took off and
volunteered herself to check the second floor if the windows were locked. Sarah
checked if the doors and the windows on the ground floor were locked. Ten minutes
later, Tiffany and Sarah approached Carla to report that all of the doors and
windows were locked. When the detectives arrived, the girls were suspected to be
the killer of their landlady.
Upon investigating, you, the detective found several clues lying on the floor. You
noticed that there was a broken piece of wood in the kitchen. Aside from that, you
noticed that the body of the victim is already stiff. This made you wonder if there
are other clues lying around the house. You were startled when you bumped into
Carla. You took the opportunity to ask her about her whereabouts during the time of
the murder. She replied that she was sleeping soundly in her room. You doubted her
alibi since there is no actual proof. Because of that, you asked Tiffany what she
knows about Carla. Tiffany said she heard Carla and the landlady were arguing
yesterday. However, she didnt know the reason. You took the opportunity to ask her
whereabouts during the crime. She explained that she was studying in her room the
whole day. As evidence, she showed you her assignment. In addition, you asked her
about Sarah. Tiffany explained that Sarah told her that she took a long bath before
they met each other downstairs. When you were about to confront Sarah, your
fellow investigator found a note on the fridge. It stated, Sarah, please pay your
debts.
You confronted Sarah regarding the note that was found. The first thing you noticed
about her was that her hair was still wet. Initially, you asked about her relationship
with Tiffany. She replied that they are only housemates. Tiffany barely interacted
with anyone. She labeled her as an eccentric shut-in. Following this, you asked her
about her debt to the landlady. She said that she was unable to pay her rent due to
her delayed salary. She asked you if you wanted to check her room since her
evidence of the paycheck is still on her desk. You were doubtful and afraid since it
might be dangerous to be accompanied by a murder suspect. Then, you
remembered that the house is equipped with a state-of-the-art non-electronic
locking system. Hence, you would really need the authentication of Sarah to get

inside of her room. But before leaving the kitchen, you noticed a broken piece of a
mug with a cross was found under the fridge. You took note of this and placed it
inside an evidence bag. As you went upstairs, you noticed an orange plastic poking
out of Carlas room. You pulled it out. Its a wet, yet clean, knife. This got you
confused. You just placed it inside an evidence bag for future reference. As you
enter the room of Sarah, she invited you if you want to sit on her couch and wait
until she finds her paycheck which was supposedly buried deep in her files. You
looked around and you noticed shattered glass from a picture frame. You looked
under the table and saw torn pieces of Tiffanys picture. Suddenly, Sarah dropped
her files.
You quickly approached Sarah and asked her about the picture that youve found.
You saw her breathing heavily. You continued to ask her about the said picture. She
hesitated first, but eventually she spilled the facts. She and Tiffany were friends.
But, their friendship ended when Sarah was unable to protect her from the
landladys bullying towards the childish attitude of Tiffany. You initially thought that
their story was irrelevant but you continued to ask what the deal about the torn
picture was. Sarah explained that it was all out of anger when she tore their picture
apart. She continued to explain that she tried apologizing to Tiffany countless times
but she repeatedly rejected her. You asked her if she can accompany you to
Tiffanys room but she denied. She explained that they do not have any
authorization to enter other rooms. Before stepping outside, you recalled confirming
her alibi. Sarah explained that it is nightly ritual going to the bath for a long period
of time. She added that if you still have doubts, you can ask the other housemates
for confirmation. And so you did. Before you were going to leave her room, Sarah
added that she heard a loud bang while she was taking her bath. You took note of
this.
As you stepped out of Sarahs room, you saw Tiffany entering her room. You invited
yourself over to further question her about the incident with Sarah. Tiffany was very
open to answer your questions. As a gist, her gripe is that Sarah never protected
her from the landladys bullying. This gave you a strong hunch that Tiffany is the
true killer. However, her alibi was too solid. There was an empirical proof that
Tiffany was doing her assignment during the possible time of the murder. She
showed her document file on her desktop. As you carefully analyzed the properties
of the .docx file, you saw that the file was made and later saved in between the
possible time of the murder. Though Tiffany may have a motive, she still has a rock
solid proof. You also asked about Sarahs nightly ritual. Tiffany confirms it as true.
Furthermore, you asked her if she heard a loud bang earlier, she denied hearing it.
Before leaving her room, you noticed that your foot was bleeding. You stepped on a
broken piece of sharp ceramic. It was small, so you didnt took note of it. With that
in mind, you went back to the ground floor. As you walked down, some pieces of
wood shavings and a blue plastic door stopper were found near Carlas room. You
took note of this.

You noticed Carla crying. You asked if there is something she wants to tell you. She
explained that the landlady was her aunt. You asked her about their relationship.
She explained that they had an argument yesterday about the bullying incident
inside the house. You remembered the story of Sarah. But, you were shocked when
you heard the version of Carla. You found out that the landlady was punishing Carla
for bullying Tiffany. This got you confused and so you further asked her about the
reason for the said incident. She sees Tiffany as the favorite of her aunt. Thus, it
made her jealous. You further asked her about her alibi. She explained again that
she was sleeping the whole time the power was out. Also, she explained that the
power was out during that time so she opted to stay in her room. Furthermore,
someone played a prank on her. A door stopper was placed on her door preventing
her from coming out. She forced herself out just to get out of her room. She also
added that her door is currently busted due to her loudly ramming the door.
Your conversation was stopped when you were called by your assistant. You rushed
over the kitchen to check if theres something important. Strings of Carlas guitar
were found in the kitchen, droplets of milk were found on the top of the fridge, and
the floor had no signs of being wet or being swept. These clues may or may not help
you in the investigation.
The investigation is taking too long so you asked for some water. Your assistant was
grateful that it was a good thing that the electricity was restored when they got
there or else theyll be snooping around in the dark. You were about to slap your
assistant for saying that line, but you noticed that youve just solved the crime.

Unobserved Phenomena (Explain the elements that might be missing in the
investigation)
Falsification (Explanation why each of you hypotheses were wrong except for
your final answer)

What is the relevance of this multi-part PeTa in line with research writing?

How the scientific method did prove your claim?

What was the reason for having the breaks during the sending of the
clues?
What were your considerations in drafting your tentative hypotheses?
How did the additional clues change your tentative hypotheses?

B. Metaphors
In the story, the characters play a vital role in providing you an idea on how to
perform a research. What were the symbolisms done in the story? (Example: The
investigator portrays the role of the researcher in solving a difficult problem. He
thoroughly finds clues and asks questions that can provide us a better light in
accurately answering the major problem.) (P.S. This is not limited to the people, the
clues and other items also provide a symbolism in the story in line to research. Use
two-three sentences only.)
C. Recommendation
Provide a research recommendation regarding the findings that you have made.
Please focus on the recommendation in performing a research investigation and not
