From depth (0.00 m) to depth (19.50 m), the average number of blows
(N = 12 blows), which corresponds loose to medium state.
From depth (19.50 m) to depth (34.50 m), the number of blows (N > 50 blows),
which corresponds very dense state.
Field Permeability indicated that the soil was a highly permeable material of average
permeability coefficient (k = 1.85 x 10-1 cm/sec).
Sieve analysis indicated that the average contents of gravel, sand and clay were 23%,
52% and 25% respectively.
Atterbergs limits indicated that the soil was a non-plastic to medium-plastic material of
average liquid limit (LL) and plasticity index (PI) as 39% and 16% respectively.
Chemical analysis indicated the following average contents:
pH = 7.97
Chlorides (Cl) = 0.468% .. (severe exposure)
Sulphates (SO3) = 0.050% .. (negligible exposure)
According to the above results, the soil could be classified as (SC) as per USCS and (A-2-6) as
per AASHTO, and the following properties could be considered:
Layer (2):
Brown, very dense / Hard, medium-plastic Mixture of Silty CLAY and SAND with trace
gravel. Extending from the bottom of layer (1) to the end of the drilled depth. Field and Lab
measurements provided the followings:
According to SPT measurements, the number of blows (N) was more than 50 blows,
which correspond very dense state or hard consistency.
Sieve analysis indicated that the average contents of gravel, sand and silt / clay were
3%, 47% and 50% respectively.
Atterbergs limits indicated that the soil was medium-plastic material of average liquid
limit (LL = 41%) and corresponding average plasticity index (PI = 16%).
According to the above results, the soil could be classified as (CL) as per USCS and (A-7-6) as
per AASHTO, and the following properties could be considered:
