Barangay 507: Revisited


On September 27, 2015 from 2:00 P.M to 5:00 P.M., the Office of the
Legal Aid (OLA) of the PUP College of Law and Legal Counseling 1 st
Semester Class SY 2015-2016 in coordination with Chairman Alnardo Q.
Rotap of Barangay 507, Sampaloc Manila, conducted a legal aid program.
The said program, which was spearheaded by the students of the Legal
Counseling class of the PUP College of Law,

was supervised and

facilitated by Atty. Maria Cristina Gimenez of the Office of the Legal Aid
and Atty. Eileen Paloma, professor of the Legal Counseling Class SY 20152016 and with the assistance of PUP College of Law Alumni namely Atty.
Carlo Alba, Atty. Arcadio Benitez, Atty. Eric Opriasa, Atty. Evangeline OngGomez, Atty. Mark Julio Abong, Atty. Jaime Amor III, and Atty. Bernardo
Luceres.
DISCUSSION/FORUM
Topic: R.A. No. 9262 Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children
Atty. Maria Cristina Gimenez facilitated the seminar and her discussion
focused on frequently asked questions such as:
1. What is R.A.9262?
2. What is covered by R.A. 9262?
3. What are the acts punishable by R.A. 9262?
4. What is the Battered Women Syndrome?
5. What is a protection order?
6. What is a barangay protection order?
7. What are the roles of the barangay?

After the discussions, an open forum was ensued where questions


from the participants pertaining to the foregoing topic were entertained.

The second part of the program was allotted for the legal counseling
where each participant was assisted by a student to a designated

An evaluation and assessment was conducted by asking the
participants to fill up the survey forms. Forty-seven (47) survey forms
were accomplished on the basis of the following: (1) Quality of Service; (2)
Timeliness of Service; and (3) Courtesy of Staff.
Also,

the

participants

provided

their

comments/suggestions/recommendations in the blank spaces provided in


the survey form.
The participants used numbers to rate the Legal Aid Program, 5
being the highest and 1 being the lowest. 5 means outstanding; 4 means
very satisfactory; 3 means satisfactory; 2 means fair; and 1 means poor.
The method we used to determine the over-all evaluation was the
Mean Method. The mean is the average of the numbers: a calculated
"central" value of a set of numbers.

Correspondence/coordination

they

are

responsible for all the communications and correspondences


necessary for this program. They had an actual and open
communication with the Office of Legal Aid of PUP Law (OLAPUP) and with other committees to facilitate the management
of the project. The said committee also made a follow up to all
correspondence with regard to the projects implementation
with the OLA and to Barangay 507 Officers.

Program committee The members of this committee
prepared the program for the said activity, as well as the
powerpoint presentation and leaflets needed for the lecture.

the

implementation of the program.

Documentation committee they are responsible for all
surveys and interviews that may be helpful in the conduct of

During

the

event,

they

registration and attendance of the participants,

took

photographs and made sure that evaluation/feedback forms


were filled out by the attendees. They also prepared this
activitys final report and documentation.

Food and logistic committees they secured and prepared
all the materials, equipment and other resources needed in
