Alleyways, the first malls of the city
From a screw for a sewing machine to
a Divino Nio sculpture you can find
on the commercial alleyways located
on the Historical Centre of Quito.
These spaces are up to date because
for many years the clients keep
buying on the stores.
Andrea Corella, niece of Luis Romn,
old proprietary of a perfume store located on the Tober alleyway says that
three generations still keep buying on the store, one of the first stores in
Quito.

proprietary of the stores are living
there for more than 30 years, they
have their own costumers.
Martha Valladares is one of the
frequent clients. She considers that
these alleyways keep tradition, she
goes there frequently, since she was
single, for buying clothes on the
Amador alleyway. Another frequent
visitant is Mara Proao, who came
from Riobamba to Quito on 80s. She
says she feel homesick about a Photos
store located on the same alleyway.
Some alleyways have been restored.
Another ones keep being new and in other it looks like time never passes by.
Who goes through their corridors can have a cup of coffee, pay for a haircut,
practice dance, buy a book and many other activities.
