Turbine and generator unit

The net head available to the turbine dictates the selection of type of turbine suitable for use at a
particular site. The rate of flow determines the capacity of the turbine. The term specific speed is
generally used in classifying types of turbines and characteristics within type as a guide to design
of hydropower mechanical design and modification of Projects. Recently, large capacity of bulb
turbines have been developed on these paper we will be developing a potential to the downstream
of GERDP. Impulse turbines have application in high head hydropower installations. Application
of impulse turbine in low head range is limited to very small size units. Possible turbine types for
low head application solution for low head sites with existing dam and weir structures available
head from 2 m up to 15 m with modules of propeller turbine units which is Bulb type one of the
possible turbine types for low head application these are design parameters are summarized as

1. Bulb nose 2. Generator

3. Shaft 4. Runner blade /turbine blade

5. Discharge ring 6. Draft tube

7. Turbine housing
