Internship Journal for July 1st week (July 1 July 5)

At 1st of July (Bank Holiday but need to go all officers & interns) I have worked under the credit
department a little bit. This department gives loan to the customers. To give loan they take
mortgage in the form of documents. The officers of this department take advice from a lawyer at
the time of agreements. This department checks the validity of the documents which are provided
by the borrowers. BCBL provide loan against asset (land, apartments, etc.), against salary of the
employees, against FDR (Fixed Deposit receipt), etc. they provide loans and take installments
along with the interest from the borrower. The borrowers can deposit their installments to their
loan accounts directly to the cash counter. If any borrower fail to pay several installments he or,
she considered as defaulter. The bank usually takes actions against the defaulter according to the
law.

At 2nd of July I had been told to collect the cheques which are submitted to the BCBL Dolaikhal
Branch for clearing. If a customer submit a cheque(s) which he or, she have got from others it
can be submitted into the General Banking Department for clearing. Clearing means deposition
of the cheque(s) amount into a bank account. If a customer has a bank account at BCBL
Dolaikhal branch, he or, she will not be charged immediately but if a customer has an account at
BCBL but the account is not at the Dolaikhal Branch then the customer will be charged and he or
she need to pay the charge at the cash counter. The charge list is given below:

Value for cheques Amount for charging

Less than Taka 40,000 No charge.
Taka 40,000-3,00,000 Taka 10.
More than 5,00,000 Taka 25.
High Value Clearing Taka 60.

There are many customers who have accounts at other branch and they frequently submit their
cheques. This service takes lots of efforts and time. But GB department never hesitate to provide
this service. In this department I am responsible to take the charges from the customers and
provide them information why we are taking the charges.

The high value means the values which are more than taka 5, 00, 000. But the difference is the
money will be deposited into the customers accounts after 3.00 p.m. in the same day of cheque
submission, if the cheque submitted before 11.00 a.m. In the case of other values the amount will
be deposited after the day of submission.

At July 3rd I have learned a new term called the transfer amount. Transferring the fund from one
account to the another can be done in two ways. A customer can fill up a transfer request form. In
that form he or, she have to mention both the account number. Another way is to providing
BCBL cheques to payee. In the case of transfer the sender or, the receiver should have an account
at Bangshal Branch to transfer money. In this day I have collected some cheques and gave
clearing seal in the cheques from other banks. From the clearing and transferring I have learned
that the cheque from other banks is subject to clearing and a cheque within BCBL is subject to
transfer.

I have received letter of other departments and kept the document of each letter. Later on I have
collect the cheques gave them clearing and transfer seals. In this day some customer also came
for collecting the foreign remittance. A customer asks me about spot cash counter. So, I have
showed him the cash counter. Later on, I realized that spot cash counter and cash counter is not
the same thing. Spot cash counter is the place where the foreign remittances can be collected. In
my bank there is no place named spot cash counter, customer used to collect their foreign
remittance from the front desk (General Banking). The customer got angry for this situation. I
begged apology from him for my mistake and said him that I was not aware about the spot cash
counter. Then he just filled up the form and has done other procedure. After, collecting the
money from the cash counter he thanked me and left.

I have collected cheques for clearing and transfers. I Wrote down some pay orders and take some
cheque book requisition. If any customer needs cheque books, he or, she need to fill up a form
named cheque requisition form. On that form the customer need to mention the account name
and number and also need to give the specific signature that is used to withdraw money from the
bank.
