EXERCISE NO 1

PRESSURE DIFFERENCE USING DIFFERENTIAL GAGE

NAME: DATE:
GROUP NO: 2 RATING:

I. Objective: To apply the computation of pressure in a column of liquid in the

determination of specific gravity of unknown liquid

II. Apparatus and Materials:

1. Fluid differential gage
2. Dropper
3. Distilled water
4. Liquid of unknown specific gravity

III. Procedure:
1. Pour the water into one end of the differential gage until fluid
reaches 25mm
2. Pour oil both ends to a height of at least 10mm from the water level
3. In the right leg, pour an additional oil until there is at least a
noticeable difference in oil level (say 10mm)
4. Record the height of oil level in the two legs of the manometer (4 in
all)
5. Repeats steps 3-4 until 2 trials

IV. Data and Tabulation:

Trial A B C D
1 23 15.5 24.5 3.6
2 39 16 40.7 3.5

Trial 1 Trial 2
AB 7.6 23
BE 15.5 16
CD 20.9 37.2
DE 3.6 3.5

V. Computations
EXERCISE NO 1
PRESSURE DIFFERENCE USING DIFFERENTIAL GAGE

Trial 1

S

o( AB)+ (1)BE (1)DE ( S o)CD=0
0+

So ( 1 ) BE( 1 ) DE( S o ) CD=0

(AB) +

So ( 15.5 )( 3.6 )( So ) (20.9)=0

(7.6) +

S o = 0.895

Trial 2

0+( )S o (AB)+ (1) BE (1) DE (S o )CD=0

So ( 1 ) BE( 1 ) DE( S o ) CD=0

(AB) +

So ( 16 ) (3.5 )( So ) (37.2)=0
(23) +

S o = 0.880

Ave S o = 0.8875
