Course Homepage: http://bb.ndu.edu.lb
Course Name & Description: (as listed in the NDU Catalogue)
PHS 212 - Electricity and Magnetism (3.0); 3 cr. Electrostatics: field, potential and dielectric. DC circuits and laws.
Magnetic field, Ampere's and Faraday's laws, induction. AC circuits. Qualitative discussion of Maxwell's equations.
Co-requisite: MAT 224
Teaching and Learning Methodology:
This course aims to introduce you to the laws of electricity and magnetism through following in the footsteps of a
physicist and problem-solving. This process will make you good critical thinkers. Problem-solving is critical
thinking. The instructor will employ an interactive approach. The emphasis is on explaining processes to students
and not on manipulating a bunch of symbols, aka equations. To achieve this goal the instructor and you will discover
the physical law in your virtual lab, solve one or two applications and then start solving problems. You be will
trained to think critically by first understanding the given, remembering the right laws, analyzing the problem,
working on the individual parts, putting it together again, and finally formulating the right solution in a way
accessible to your peers. Problem-solving, both in class and at home, is the only way to become a good critical
thinker and also to pass this course. You will need to solve the weekly assigned homework problems.
