Background/Introduction
1. National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH):

Registered in June 1992 as a company limited.


Under the Malaysian Companies Act 1965.
Established as a Company Limited by Guarantee.
Under Human Resource Ministry.
The board of Directors is the administrative body that makes policies and decision
and its members are individuals from government, unions and the industrial sector.
Established with an endowment fund from the SOCSO and from the Government.
This fund was invested to become part of NIOSHs source of income.
Started operations in March 1993.

2. Established in 1992 to enhance OSH in Malaysia, mainly through:

Training and curriculum development.

Information dissemination.

Work scope for NIOSH

1. Evaluates workplaces hazard and recommends solutions when


requested by employers, workers or state or federal agencies.
2. Builds state worker safety and health capacity through grants and
cooperative agreement.
3. Funds occupational safety and health research on a wide variety of
topics at universities and other organization.
4. Supports occupational safety and health training programs.
