5.7 Leak Test

Improperly installed bolted gasketed joints will allow water and dirty air to bypass the
filter elements. This is detrimental to the life of the gas turbine. It is the installation
contractors responsibility to ensure that all clean air joints are properly sealed and do not
leak. The site shall perform a hose test to ensure that all bolted gasketed joints are
air/water tight.

Hose test procedure:

1. At least 2 people are needed to conduct the hose test.
2. One person with a water hose is positioned outside the ducting and plenum. This person shall
spray water on each flange for 2-5 minutes. Ensure that the entire flange perimeter sees 2-5
minutes of water spraying. Any exposed external insulation must be protected, such that
it does not get wet.
3. One person is inside the ducting and plenum. This person notes any leaks where water seeps
through the flange.
4. All leaks are to be sealed with Sikaflex 221 caulk on the dirty air side. Clean and dry the area
completely prior to the application of caulk.
5. After the caulk has cured, perform a second hose test to ensure that the leak has been sealed.

5.8 External Insulation Installation (105T5622)

1. Bond the self adhesive rubber band REP 35 (105T5622) to the structural sheets, profiles
and angle bars according to 105T5622.
2. Pull out the support pins (sheet 4 of 105T5622) from the duct shell plate. Push the
acoustic cushion REP 34 (105T5622) such that it pierces the support pin.
3. Install the square washer REP 32 (105T5622) and bend the support pin to lock the
acoustic cushion in place.
4. Install the cladding sheets as outlined in 105T5622 and fix in place using self-tapping
screws REP33. The self-tapping screws shall have a pitch no greater than 8 inches [203
mm].
5. Caulk the overlapping areas of the field installed cladding seams with Sikaflex 221 and
ensure that the assembly is water tight.

5.9 Removal of plastic protective covers

The following protective covers shall be removed after completing installation and leak testing
1. Protective covers on the perforated sheets.
2. Protective tape covers on the IBH pipe orifice.
3. Plastic bags on the silencer panels.

6. PAINT INSPECTION

1. Inspect the inlet duct for any damage to the paint system. Stainless steel components are not
to be painted.
2. Repair any damaged areas as per GEK111332, section V, paragraph C (Page 20). The paint
system is International Protective Coatings Co.

7. CLEANLINESS/FINAL INSPECTION

Prior to the operation of the gas turbine, the inlet ducting and inlet plenum must be checked to
ensure that they are 100% free of dirt, debris, tools, cleaning equipment, and other foreign
objects. All sections of the inlet ducting must be completely installed. All instrumentation must
be in place. All access hatches shall be closed and sealed prior to start.
