A few years ago

there was a national competition:

how should the

new Swedish
money look like?
Save the date: 30th June 2017
The Famous Swedes on the money we
saw were:
Birgitta Nilsson, an opera singer
Ingmar Bergman, a director

Greta Garbo, an actress

Evert Taube, a composer

Dag Hammarskjld, a diplomat

Astrid Lindgren, a writer

But why change the money?
1. The coins will be less heavy, smaller and
without nickel (a metal), so they will be easier to
use. Transports will be cheaper and more
environmental-friendly.
2. There are more coins circulating than needed. Many
people save coins, so they keep too many of them at home in
piggybanks, and the bank has to make new coins.
When money is changing, people have to give the money they have
to the bank to get new coins.

3. Blind people will feel the difference between

coins easier when touching the milled edge.
The weight of coins

The current weight of one crown

in grams is given by this formula.

How much does a crown weigh?

Answer:
7 grams. How many coins are
needed to weigh as
much as 12 cars, if one
car is one ton? Answer:
1,714,286 coins.
How easy is it to make money?
The European Central Bank, banks in Denmark,
Finland, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden,
United Kingdom, Sweco (a consulting agency) and
Swedens Forensic Centre have given advice.
The bills have a watermark, are made of cotton
and SHOULD be hard to copy.
Who makes the Swedish money?
Crane AB, an American company, prints the bank
notes.
Mint of Finland, a Finnish company, makes the
coins.
Who makes the euro?
Different countries in the European Union (France, Greece,
Belgium, Finland...). The National Central Banks decide how
much has to be printed.
