Task one: Breast Cancer

There are more than one million reported incidences of cancer in the United States each

year. Understanding the continuum of cancer and its lifecycle is of great significance to coping

with the disease. Cancer is a general name for a group of more than 100 diseases caused by the

abnormal growth of cells. The abnormal cells have different growth from normal cells. Instead of

dying, they continue to grow forming new abnormal cells that spread to other tissues making it

cancerous.

Breast cancer is prevented through early detection. Preventive measures such as avoiding

causal risk factors such as alcohol, tobacco, high sugar intake help in reducing the risk of

developing breast cancer. Regular screening is an effective strategy for early detection of the

disease for treatment. The typical signs and symptoms related to breast cancer include: swelling

of all part of a breast, irritation or dimpling, nipple or breast pain, nipple discharge and

thickening of breast skin (Fisanick, Breast Cancer).

Task two: Diabetes

Diabetes is often referred by doctors as diabetes mellitus. It describes a group of

metabolic diseases where an individual has high blood glucose either because of inadequate

production of insulin. Patients with diabetes experience frequent urination and often become

increasingly thirsty. The common symptoms of diabetes include: blurry vision, extreme fatigue,

frequent urination, bruises take long to heal and weight loss. Diagnosis can be done through

Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG) test and Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) (American

Diabetes Association, 'Diabetes Basics'). There is an emerging global diabetes epidemic

characterized by rapid increase in overweight, physical inactivity, and obesity. World Health

Organization estimates that deaths from diabetes will rise by more than 50 % in the next ten

years (WHO.int, 10 Facts about Diabetes')
