Together for Language and Culture
Cinderella, Mother Holle, and The Valiant Little Tailor - still are the well-kno

hildren's and Household Tales, we have to thank Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. In addi

of the German language" and started by the brothers Grimm "German Dictionary" t
hey form the basis for today's linguistics and German folklore. The "German Gram
mar" Jacob Grimm makes the founder of German philology. The Brothers Grimm were
born in 1785 and 1786 in Hanau. They are the oldest of five sons and a daughter
of a pastor's family and officials. Their carefree childhood increases with the
death of his father in 1796 to an end. Due to financial distress, the brothers a

rofessor Friedrich Carl von Savigny, who has a decisive influence on the scienti
fic operation of the brothers. He makes them familiar with the poet Johann Gottl
ieb Herder. They discover their love for the history of the German language and
literature. Jacob is on the jurisprudence. In the next ten years the two brother

Children versus freedom
"Oh children," groaned the father several times and wrote poetry in Goethe's Her
mann and Dorothea "," For verily as a mother, it requires the virtues of all, /
When the infant awakens the desires afflicting and food / from the weak, and thu
s pain worries are piling up. Twenty men combined could not bear the complaint,
/ And they should not, but they should be grateful to see it. "Meanwhile, some m
en have also had the experience that they are able to care for their children no
t only material. They take everyday family tasks - without the help of other men
. They cook, cleaning, and they guard their child, even if it is sick, and she c
omforted when it cries at night. However, women still use much more time for fam
ily work than men. This can be read among other things, that they work more ofte
n part-time than men. Difficulties in combining family and work is regarded as o
ne of the main reasons that fewer and fewer decisions (especially well-educated)
women for children. Child care facilities are only available in insufficient nu
mbers, it is said. But it is the lack Hortplatz that causes a woman (or couple)
to give up a child (or even several children)? Hardly. Anyone who wants a child
at heart, the poor infrastructure will not deter them from starting a family. In
the era of contraception, it is the freedom of each individual to decide for or
against children. State incentives, more children into the world to help little
to increase the birth rate. Nobody is in favor of their own children because he
saves taxes and child receives. Not state-funded support leads to more children
, but at most a change in attitude towards individual freedom. For in a liberal
dominated and defined benefit society to parenthood has become a risky lifestyle
. Have children is' not without a (painful) waiver of possible freedom to design
their own lives. Children a sheer force of their existence on a particular day.
It is a place not so easy when one must provide for children. It is simply less
"flexible" - a major disadvantage in a society in which one is defined by his p
rofessional position. A different and new understanding of individual freedom bu
t can not prescribe the state.
