Objectives of the Study

A. General Objectives

At the end of one (1) hour of the case presentation, the nursing students of block

NC who are in their fourth pediatric rotation will be able to present and discuss

thoroughly the pediatric case of a patient who had a final diagnosis of Kawasaki

Disease. Furthermore, the nursing students would also be able to explain the general

health condition of their patient and other sufficient details that supports their case

including its related health factors. The nursing students will also present the data

gathered during their assessment and will be able to provide necessary nursing care

plan as well as increase their ability in using their critical thinking skills. After the

presentation, they will be able to exhibit mastery and tact in answering relevant

questions with positive attitude towards criticism and suggestions from their audience.

They will not just impart their knowledge regarding their case to their audience but also

gain knowledge from their clinical instructors comments and suggestions. Lastly, they

will be able to work as a team and accomplish their output with a comprehensive

analysis concerning their patients condition.

B. Specific Objectives

At the end of one (1) hour of the case presentation at Xavier University, the

nursing students of block NC with a patient diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease will be

able to:

1. Orally present the case in a logical manner, summarizing the pertinent positive

and negative findings as well as the differential diagnosis and plans for care plan.
2. Determine and discuss the anatomy and physiology of the body systems

involved.

3. Identify the predisposing and precipitating factors that contribute to the onset of

the disease.

4. Acquire knowledge regarding the medications administered to the patient and

understand the importance of complying it.

5. Enumerate the actual and possible medical and nursing management rendered.

6. Justify and answer questions to support their case and the basis for their nursing

care interventions.

7. Formulate effective nursing care plan with three actual problems and two high

risks problems.

8. Demonstrate commitment to improving case presentation skills by regularly

seeking feedback on presentations form clinical instructor.

C. Scope and Limitation

The nursing students of Xavier University Ateneo de Cagayan conducted a

health assessment indicatively to present patients in Maria Reyna-Xavier University

Hospital situated at station 2A at which point the data gathered involves about the

history, current physiological and psychological health status that the patient manifests

under the provision of care rendered by family members and significant others as well

as the healthcare providers.

The scope of the study covers on the general condition that has been assessed

by the nursing students on the patient and the clinical records that were obtained with

verification from the hospital. Furthermore, it is based on the management involving the

patient diagnosed with Kawasaki disease. The appropriate nursing interventions and

ideal management base on the nursing diagnosis, the medication ordered by the

attending physician to be administered to the patient and its importance in complying it

and also the nursing care plan involved.

Meanwhile, this study is limited and is only focused to the pediatric conditions

and problems manifested by the chosen patient.

D. Significance of the Study

This study will provide information and will benefit the following:

Significant Others. This study will provide health teaching needed by the

significant others of the patient regarding the physical changes manifested by the

patient and they will also be able to acquire knowledge and insight about being

able to identify what are the hallmark signs the patient manifests who has a

Kawasaki disease.

Health Nurses and Practitioners. This study enables health

professionals and practitioners for further information and knowledge about

certain issues and matters that a pediatric patient experiences; especially with

regard to appropriate nursing interventions to a pediatric patient diagnosed with

Kawasaki disease.
Nursing Students. This study will help nursing students in applying their

acquired knowledge from discussions and return demonstration to the clinical

setting. The students are also able to broaden their knowledge especially in

selecting appropriate and ideal intervention to ensure quality health care given to

the patient. Through this study, nursing students will also be able to render more

nursing skills in dealing with the same case in future clinical exposure.

Future Researchers. The outcome of this study can aid future

researchers in discovering a certain part of the research that needs improvement

and be able to provide furthermore research about the certain case and gain new

insight and ideas whether to broaden their scope about the topic or set more

limitations to this case. This study will also help them in enhancing their

understanding and critical thinking skills in acknowledging and strategizing the

pediactric patient to make a better and more effective assessment.
