African-American Civil Rights Movement Research Project

The Civil Rights Movement spanning the 1900s, especially the latter
half, is an integral part of American History. In order to both educate
ourselves further about these powerful moments in our history and to
prepare for our upcoming field trip to the Civil Rights Museum in Memphis,
TN, we will be conducting a mini research project this week. You each will be
randomly assigned to a different event. You will be writing a research report
and creating some sort of visual or creative extension to accompany it. I am
so excited to see how you present and connect to your topic.

Question Prompt: What happened during your assigned event? How


did it contribute to the larger Civil Rights Movement? Make a
textual, world, or personal connection to this event.

Requirements:
1.) 1-2 Paragraphs written summary of event, including such details
as:
-Time
-Place
-Person involved
-Leaders
-What happened?
-What significance did this event have on a larger scale? (What did it
contribute to the larger civils rights movement?)
*No direct quotes needed, but instead you will paraphrase your
information*
2.) Your research is cited in a separate works cited page stapled to
the back of your essay (see example). You will use the suggested
resources to complete your research.
3.) 1 Paragraph making a connection to this event (may be textual,
world, or personal). Give specific evidence supporting your connection.
4.) CREATIVE ELEMENT: Your choice! You may:
a.) Create a visual that depicts your event.
b.) Write a 1st person P.O.V. story about what it would be like to be
there, participating or watching on the day of the event.
c.) Slideshow with actual photographs from the event. (At least 3, with
captions). Sources cited.
d.) Create a song about the event, focusing on either what it would be
like to be there OR why we care about this piece of history
I will be using our writing rubric to grade the written part, which means you
must be sure to include an introduction and conclusion. I will use the
rubric below to grade your entire project. This will be a test grade. You will
also be receiving a grade for this project from Mr. Evans and Mrs. Brock.

PROJECTS ACCEPTED. NO EXCEPTIONS.
