Introduction

This paper is about a couple of talked about topics of 2016. The first subtopic that will be

talked about is what the rules and punishments of smoking marijuana be. Marijuana or

proposition 64 voted yes upon in California in the latest election. The second subtopic will be

about how smartphones actually bring more disadvantages than advantages. Smartphones have

been acting up lately, which has been making people argue if they are still good. The third

subtopic will be how Donald Trump will possibly be a bad president. Donald Trump is our latest

president to be, but it has been a controversy as to if he will be a good one ore bad one; However,

this will show some of the down sides of Trump.

Topic #1

The Outcome of Legalization of Marijuana

Anderson 2

People can smoke Marijuana, but have to follow the rules or face the punishment. My cousin

used to be a consumer, but he stopped because he was scared it would make him do harder

things. Marijuana has just been legalized by proposition 64 in California. Medical marijuana has

been used for a while now and since people are still buying it on the streets, California thought

they might as well make a profit off of it. This law will grant the people of California to smoke

weed when not in public. Weed has been a substance used illegally for some time now and have

been arrested for having. This topic will show what rules will have to followed to smoke weed,

how much money we will be receiving and how the money will be used, and the representation

of weed subjects.

With the right to smoke weed, there are still rules. Only adults 21 and up can smoke

weed legally unless it is for a medical condition. (Patrick Mcgreevy) This makes sense since

it is like alcohol and can give the same symptoms as alcohol will give you. It is a good thing that

young people cant have easy access to weed easily because many people would smoke it and

not get a good education. People wont be able olight up just anywhere, like no sidewalks,

bars, restaurants, theaters, anywhere tobacco is restricted, and within 1,000 feet of a

school, day-care or youth center where youth are present. (Patrick Mcgreevy) This is a

really good thing because not everyone wants to smoke and smell that. This is like a courtesy

type of rule so that people dont get sick from the smell when they try to eat or are relaxing.

People busted smoking marijuana in public can expect to face a fine of up to $100 and

people smoking near places where tobacco smoking is prohibited or near a school can be

fined up to $250. (Patrick Mcgreevy) This is another courtesy call and is where it should be

prohibited. When a spot prohibits a place for certain thing it is because people dont want that

there and its because someone can be allergic or annoyed by it. It would prohibit the sale of
Anderson 3

marijuana to nonmedical users under age 21 unless it is for medical reasons and must be

put in child-resistant containers. (Patrick Mcgreevy) This rule is so that kids again cannot just

get weed when they want to. A lot of children might try to get to weed, but this way kids wont

be able to unless an adult gives it to them. Want to open a pot shop? You will need a state

license. Want to grow marijuana for others? Youll still need a license. (Patrick Mcgreevy)

This is for drug dealers and now they can sell their products and help the economy. This would

put the illegal drug dealers who make bad or laced products go away and bring substances from

non-shady people.

The weed industry will make California a lot more money. Eventually, we estimate the

revenue collected from this could reach the high hundreds of millions to potentially over

one billion, (Soderborg) From this mans research, he says that since California has so many

people that smoke weed, that there will be a high revenue of money coming in. He had based his

research around Colorado which made millions. -10s of millions of dollars would pay back

state agencies.-10 million goes to study effects of marijuana.-3 million for highway patrol to

come up with protocols for drugged driving.-10 million for local health departments.-And

the rest goes to education and prevention programs. (Drew Bollea) The money will go to

these programs and departments. The money will be spread to good causes and not just float

around straight to the government. About $30 million dollars pays back government offices

that manage marijuana. The next largest chunk, $35 million, supports schools. (Drew

Bollea) The school system will get a large chunk of this profit so that kids will have a better

chance and get a better education rather than be a dead beat. This is kind of a way to do reverse

psychology because this is where something dead beats do that help the future so they dont
Anderson 4

turn out the way they are. California will be getting a bunch of money which will show why

there would be so much money.

Weed has been used for a long time and has many people use it. In 2014, California

was 49% of the people in the US who bought cannabis. (ArcView Market Research)

California is already the biggest state that buys weed while it was illegal, which means there will

be more because it is legal and will make a giant profit from it. Since California already buys so

much weed, The cannabis intake will most likely become more than 55% based on my studies of

people who want to start but didnt want to because it was illegal.

From study from 1972 - 2010, the rate of arrests for having marijuana has doubled. With

marijuana being legalized, there should be less arrests for being in custody unless a lot of people

break the rules. This will help the prisons because they have over crowding and this will cut

down the majority of pot heads being locked up freeing space for real criminals.

Smartphones Give More Disadvantages Than Advantages

Smartphones can ruin your health. Smartphones are everywhere now and days, but

people need to know that it is actually slowing down lives rather than moving them forward. Our

lives seem to go as far as the length of our phones charger cords. The smartphone generation has

gotten to the point to where we are wall huggers for an outlet. This generation has gotten to the

point where we dont really socialize with friends anymore, we talk on the phone but we dont

hang out places and dont go outside anymore and we have turned into a form of hermit crabs.

This paper will show you the defaults of smartphone use with some upsides. The following will

be shown in this research paper: The advantages of its use, the problems it causes on your

health, and what their problems are.

The smartphone have a good system that help the world. Smartphones are without any

doubts excellent means of communication. (Jesensky John) Smartphones are the best way of

communication because they allow you to text on multiple formats and make calls. They make it

easy to navigate through your phone and find many different ways to contact someone else.

With a smartphone you can easily find that information in no time. (Nu Telecom staff)

Smartphones seem hold the worlds information at your fingertips. When ones is on the go, they

dont have to stop somewhere to go on a computer but they can look up things on their phone

instead. With a GPS-enabled camera smartphone, for example, you can take pictures of a

holiday and plot them on a map. (David Nield) Phones now and days have good cameras so

everyone can always document your life. The GPS camera can be a good thing to have because if

someone recently took a picture and posted it, but then disappear, the police can now track them
Anderson 7

and find the missing person. There are things that help us in many way, but this luxury can

actually affect our health which will be explained next.

While being on the phone a lot, it actually ruins health. Spending so much time staring

at a screen can lead to anxiety and even depression as people expect constant updates and

interaction from friends, and worry when these arent received. (Jayne Leonard) With the

generation that has the world at their fingertips, the young always feel left out when they arent

text because it is so easy to text. They dont feel like they are part of the world because they are

not updated which makes them feel like nothing or they feel the same way when friends do stuff

without them. Not only are we more distracted and less present in social scenarios thanks

to our cell phones, were also becoming less connected to our peers on a deeper level.

Researchers from the University of Essex found that people who discussed personally

meaningful topics when a cell phone was nearby (even if they werent being used) reported

lower relationship quality and less trust in their partner. (Jayne Leonard) With phones as a

factor, people are usually more distracted by those than being in the present with the people they

are with. It seems that phone have instead of connecting us, they have disconnected us from

everyone in our actual lives and put us in a virtual reality forgetting we have a real reality.

Experts say our brains get a hit of dopamine and serotonin the chemicals linked to

happiness when our phones beep or ring. These are the same chemicals that give drug

users their high! In fact, nomophobia (the fear of being without your mobile device) is

now recognized as a serious issue with rehab facilities available to help you deal with your

problem! (Jayne Leonard) As one can see, smartphones have become such an issue, that some

people cant go without them. Some people act like a smartphone is their drug and they are

addicted, when it is already bad for your health.

Anderson 8

Smartphones have more problems than regular phones. A smartphone costs

considerably more up front -- on the order of a few hundred dollars, versus less than about

a third of that cost for a standard phone. (Scott Cornell) Smartphones are becoming very

expensive and too much to buy these days. It is crazy to think that regular phones cost so much

less than a smartphone which is at least over $100 now n days. With a device that fits into

your pocket and is able to accomplish so much, it's only natural that you're constantly

checking email, sports scores, text messages, Facebook and browsing the Web. (Scott

Cornell)A smartphone is a major distraction and can make you have an addiction. A smartphone

is bad to have at school because it can distract a student from doing their work and cause the to

get into trouble. The apps you download and the passwords that you input into these apps

and websites while on-the-go are often not secure, at least in terms of account privacy. This

means that Internet access on an insecure network puts you at risk of identity theft and

hacked accounts. (Scott Cornell) Personal information can be stolen because since it isnt

secure, anyone can be hacked and lose the info. It is a very unsafe thing to have and it could

mean you can lose money or your identity.

Topic #3

Trump Can Possibly Be A Bad President

Anderson 9

Donald Trump has been a controversial topic, but he is the president-elect. He is a

billionaire and runs a multimillion dollar company. Trump is a good businessman, but he may

not be a good president. Trump won the electoral college votes and is now to be known as the

president as long as the electors do not change their votes from Trump. Trump has gone bankrupt

multiple times, so people may think he could cause us to go into an economic recession. The

topics that will be disgust will be: Trump doesnt know when to be quiet, how his immigration

policies will hurt the US, and how trump will ruin foreign relations.

Trump doesnt know when to stop talking. All of the women on The Apprentice flirted

with me - consciously or unconsciously. That's to be expected. (Donald Trump Brainly 1)

Trump speaks as he is gods gift to women which makes him seem sexist. Trump has to stop

speaking like this when he is the new president. I have made the tough decisions, always with

an eye toward the bottom line. Perhaps it's time America was run like a business. (Donald

Trump Brainly 1) Trump wants to run this country like a business which is something we dont

need to have happen. The United States a president and leader, not a businessman. Our

politicians are stupid. And the Mexican government is much smarter, much sharper, much

more cunning. And they send the bad ones over because they don't want to pay for them.

They don't want to take care of them. Why should they when the stupid leaders of the

United States will do it for them? (Trump Brainly 1) Trump is known for giving good

speeches but end up messing it up with rambling. Trumps seems like he doesnt truly know how

the immigration happened and that all the mexicans who came here are not bad, while he thinks

they ruin the economy. Speaking of how his policies are actually messing with America because

he doesnt know who he shouldnt be talking to.

Anderson 10

Trumps immigration tactics wont work and will hurt the U.S. Trump's immigration

plans cost him a handful of business deals, but they might cost the United States much

more. (Emily Stewart) Trump seems like doesnt realize how much the cost of emigrating 11

million illegals will actually be. It may cost Trump some money but it will most likely make us

pay for it by raising taxes. The American Action Forum, a right-leaning policy institute

based in Washington D.C., estimates that immediately and fully enforcing current

immigration law, as Trump has suggested, would cost the federal government from $400

billion to $600 billion. It would shrink the labor force by 11 million workers, reduce the real

GDP by $1.6 trillion and take 20 years to complete (Trump has said he could do it in 18

months). (Emily Stewart) Donald Trump has gone bankrupt multiple times for a business man,

it seems that if he runs the country like one, America might not be a nation anymore. Trump

seems to be saying things that are ethically impossible while also saying something that would

make the US richer, but it actually make it poorer. Companies that sell to the immigrant

population would be affected as well, leading to decreased revenues for local businesses and

a loss of American jobs. (Emily Stewart) Trump says he will be making more jobs by sending

the immigrants back, but in fact it seems that it will make jobs plummet. Trump seems like he is

trying to make the middle class drop to lower class while the rich stay rich because of his policy,

Americas economy will drop and could make us go back to the 1920s great depression. With

Trump cutting ties with Mexico, it seems like he may ruin other foreign relationships.

Trump will break relations with foreign governments. China hoped the United States

does not allow her [Taiwan's president] transit, and does not send any wrong signals to
Anderson 11

Taiwan independence forces, the foreign ministry told Reuters in a statement. (Christy

Yao) Trump already before even being president has made China mad because he is putting

business before America. Trump wants to sell hotels in Taiwan and because we dont recognize

them, along with China saying they are the only country we should recognize, China has become

mad with us if he doesnt listen. build a great, great wall on our southern border to keep

undocumented immigrants out, and he will have Mexico pay for that wall. (PBS.org)

Trump has been on a slogan of getting rid of illegal mexicans and building a wall, which in

contrast will most likely ruin our trade agreement with them. It seems that Trumps is trying to

make the U.S. isolated, which is the opposite of what the United States is bounded by. Trump,

who has called the American military disorganized and weak, wants to significantly

increase Pentagon spending, said dictators like Assad dont have to be deposed, said he

would collaborate with Russias Vladimir Putin, and has repeatedly asked why we don't

use nuclear weapons if we have them. (Steven Rosenfeld) Trump seems to be trying to

obliterate other nations, recognized or not, if they even say anything back; in other words, Trump

seems to be the bad hands that Nukes should not be in. Trump might likely start a nuclear war

that ends life as we know it because it might start a chain of events which makes other nation

react and set off their nukes too. To recap in this paper, it shows that Trump may cause America

to finally fall to the grasp of time and fail.
