This is a difficult economy to be negotiating a contract that will determine if we receive pay
increases. However, it is an equally good opportunity to dig deep and craft stronger language that
will provide the building blocks for a safe, positive and productive work place for all Washington
state Higher Education employees.
We have a strong and informed Community College Coalition team (your CCC team) that brings
expertise and knowledge of the issues that affects each community college respectively, and it is
my opinion this team will get the needed language to insure we all get a progressive contract that
we can be proud of. - Todd Henderson, CCC Bargaining Team Member

The Community College Coalition Bargaining Team joined a group of General Government
employees and the special furlough bargaining team, delivering nearly 2,000 “No FurloUGHs”
petitions to the Governor’s office. We handed the individually signed petitions to the Governor’s
chief of staff, Jay Manning, one-by-one. WFSE President Carol Dotlich read the names of each
and every employee that signed a petition and team members laid them across the Governor’s
newly refinished conference room table.
We asked questions about furloughs, a farce that will actually cost $94 million in lost federal
matching funds, run up huge overtime costs (just as in Oregon) and make a political statement
rather than saving any money. I agree with Carol Dotlitch, who told Manning, “we (employees)
are the state’s greatest asset!” - Rosemary Sterling, WFSE Treasurer
