Time Allocation : 6 X 40 Minutes

A. STANDARD COMPETENCE
2. To understand the sustainability of organisms

B. BASIC COMPETENCE
2.1. To Identify the sustainability of life of organisms by adaptation, natural selection, and
reproduction

C. LEARNING OBJECTIVE
The students are able to:
1. Observe the behavior of an organisms in the environmet for their sustainability of life
2. Predict the extinction of several organisms caused by natural selection and their
adaptation to the environment
3. Give example for rare animal and plant.
4. Differentiate the adaptation of each organisms
5. Describe the interspesific relationship (population relationship) with natural selection
6. Explain the function of reproduction for the sustainability of life and to describe the
process of reproduction

D. LEARNING MATERIALS:

The sustainability of life in an organism can be maintained through adaptation, natural

selection and reproduction. Adaptation is a process to fit the changes in the surrounding
environment. There are three types of adaptation conducted by organisms, namely structural,
functional and behavioral adaptations.

Natural selection is a choosing or selection by nature to individuals having adaptive

characteristics to certain environment. Natural selection lasting for a long time can cause the
occurrence of species composition change. For example, the natural selection occurs in
moth (Biston betularia)

In plant, there are two reproduction ways, sexual and asexual reproductions. There
are two kinds of fertilization in animal: internal and external fertilizations. Some examples of
animals doing internal fertilization are mammals. Some examples of animals doing external
fertilization are fishes and frogs.
