INTERPRETATION OF DATA AND RESULTS

In producing the single sideband with the sample audio sinusoidal signal for the experiment was

done using the Phasing method. The input signal was first split into two signals, each 90 degrees out of

phase from each other. Then, each are multiplied with the carrier matching their phase and then merged

(added) back.

The phasing method of SSB generation uses two balanced modulators. Let's say we name the first

one BM1 and the other BM2. The modulating and carrier signal is directly fed to BM1. We also feed both

signals to BM2, but before that, we need to shift their phase to 90. This phase shifting causes one of the

sidebands to cancel out when the output of BM1 and BM2 is added together.

There are two other ways to generate SSB. The filter method, being one, is the most widely used

method and the simplest as well.

CONCLUSION

The existing methods for generation of SSB using discrete components, is not suitable for

laboratory implementation. The proposed SSB modulator, is comparatively simple and suitable for

laboratory implementation. The method is tested for single tone modulation. The method being transformer-

less, is compact in size and has reduced electronic noise.

There are multiple purpose as to why SSB generation is necessary. First is that it is more efficient

in terms of power. Second is that it uses less bandwith, which means that more stations can occupy a

certain range of frequency. Lastly, SSB is less susceptible to noise.
