What is Zclassic
Definition
Zclassic is a decentralized and open-source cryptocurrency that offers privacy and selective transparency
thanks to the possibility for the sender to choose between public and private transactions.

Zclassic takes its philosophy from Bitcoin (no chief, no corporation, only independant developers working
on donations) and its technology from Zcash (the most advanced and efficient cryptographic protocol
allowing total privacy) from which it is derived.

Specifications1
PoW: Equihash
Halving rate: Every 4 years (same as Zcash and Bitcoin)
Starting Block Reward: 12.5 coins every 2.5 minutes (Same as Zcash. 50 coins per 10 minutes,
like Bitcoin).
Supply: 21 million coins, as per Bitcoin (Unchanged from Zcash)
Difficulty adjustment algorithm: Digishield V3 (Unchanged from Zcash)
Difficulty adjusts each block (Unchanged from Zcash)
Mining is efficient from CPU and GPU
Symbol: ZCL (pronounced "ZICKLE" like "NICKEL")
What is different from Zcash : No founders reward, no slow start.

Brief history
Starting in 2014, the Zcash protocol (briefly known as "Zerocash") was developed through a collaboration
between the original Zerocoin researchers at Johns Hopkins University and a group of cryptographers at
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, and Tel Aviv
University, who together were able to improve upon the original design by making it more efficient and more
private.2

Shortly after Zcash launched, Rhett Creighton3 forked the project into Zclassic with a Bitcointalk
Announcement on November 6, 2016. The humble origins of Zclassic involved two simple modifications to
Zcash: removing the 20% Founders Reward and removing the slow start feature of Zcash that was
perceived as artificially engineering scarcity to create trading buzz. 4

In February 2017, only 3 months after its birth, Zclassic is more than 700 users on Slack and followers on
Twitter, 7 core developers, a few dozen of active developers on various Zclassic based projects and has
already more than 500k USD of market cap.

7 reasons why we need Zclassic
1. True anonymity
Anonymous transactions are needed by everyone and not only for people "who have something
to hide" like those using dark markets. Private transactions are a necessity in business as it is
also the basis of fungibility.
2. Bitcoin is not fungible
At the moment, Bitcoin is not anonymous. We don't know when/if it will be upgraded with privacy
features.
3. Only two relevant competitive technologies on the market
There is only two serious technologies offering anonymous transaction right now: Monero and
Zcash. Created in 2014, Monero is a CryptoNote protocol based coin that enable privacy by
making transaction obfuscated through confusion. Futhermore, the upcoming hard fork
(september 2017) will force the new RingCT layer to be applied in every transaction, which
means that one will not being able to choose between private and public transaction. Created in
2016, Zcash is a reliable technology built by academic researchers which aimed to perfectly
integrate anonymity in the core of the proven Bitcoin protocol, resulting in a new full-fledged
digital currency.
4. Zcash technology is better than Monero technology
Zcash is close to Bitcoin in design and therefore can benefit from the developpment network
effect unlike Monero where everything needs to be developped from scratch for it. Zcash also has
the exact same model of issuance as Bitcoin (21m coins, same rate of mining) while Monero has
unlimited supply5. Zcash has opt-in anonymous transactions where Monero is anonymous by
default. This means that with Zcash you can either do transparent regular blockchain transactions
or cloaked anonymous transactions. This offers two advantages: first, transparent transactions
are useful for different type of usecases. And second, it doesn't raise as much redflags from
governments while offering the same privacy. Finally, in the technical community, Zcash
transactions are considered theoretically more perefectly anonymous than the obfuscated
through confusion transactions of Monero, the latter also being widely considered as a poorly
scalable coin.
5. But Zcash suffers from a fatal flaw
Zcash is partly the product of a US corporation6 and they made the mind-boggling decision to add
a tax of 20% on every block mined until half of the total coins are mined (it is named the founders
reward). Futhermore, corporate coins add general uncertainty, such as centralisation pressure
and legal targets.
6. The perfect anonymous cryptocurrency is Zcash without its flaw
The 20% tax is not acceptable and destroys the foundation of what is supposed to be a worldwide
currency. This will put a ceiling on Zcash potential as money. Cryptocurrencies are meant to free
people and enable worldwide unfettered commerce, not to bring us back to Middle Ages
seigniorage!
7. This perfect cryptocurrency exists, it is Zclassic
Zclassic is a fork of Zcash that simply removed the mining tax (and the slow start7). It was
released just a few days after Zcash and is what Zcash should have been.

Zclassic Investment thesis
Bitcoin smaller cousins
The invention of Bitcoin has led to the creation of thousands of alternative crypto-currencies (altcoins). They
are listed on websites such as https://coinmarketcap.com/. At the beginning of 2017, eighty of these altcoins
have a market cap of at least $1M. Twenty-five have passed the $10M mark, and five are over $100M:
Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, Monero and Ethereum Classic.

Historically altcoins tend to rise by waves either:

In the wake of Bitcoin price increases when more people get to discover Bitcoin or finally decide to
invest. Some of the new money will flow into altcoins for diversification purposes or because they
might offer a higher return potential due to their smaller market cap. Some people always feel like
they "missed the train" with Bitcoin.
When Bitcoin holders have concerns about Bitcoin. That makes them want to hedge their crypto-
currency bet and makes diversification more appealing. This especially benefits altcoins with
technological innovations. Weve seen this in 2016 around the contentious issue of the blocksize.

The leading altcoins

In 2016, 3 altcoins in particular have seen huge returns:

Ethereum went from a market cap of $72M to $698M (peaked at $1.2B)

Ethereum Classic split from Ethereum and is worth $140M (peaked at $270M)
Monero went from a market cap of $5M to $180M

Besides the blocksize issue, there are also potential worries about Bitcoin imperfect anonymity. A part of
the Bitcoin ecosystem might be reluctant to support efforts to improve Bitcoin anonymity for fears of
government crackdown on their business, particularly in China. Critical upgrades in cryptocurrencies are
only achievable through network consensus; lack thereof will either result in coin splits (Ethereum vs
Ethereum Classic) where the market will decide of the eventual outcome or in indefinite stalling. Bitcoin is
precisely going through a battle for consensus on the blocksize issue at the moment, and privacy might
very well be the next point of contention.

There are thousands of altcoins. Many of them are solely used as vehicles for pump and dump schemes,
much like penny stocks. However, a few intrinsically different altcoins found their niche because they offer
unique features and a narrative justifying their existence apart from Bitcoin.

The anonymous, privacy-focused altcoins

2017 should prove another good year for altcoins and especially for privacy-focused altcoins.

The following coins: Monero, Zcash and by extension Zclassic should be the center of attention. There is
consensus in the technical community that they have the best privacy technology.

security vulnerabilities that may be found in the protocol. It was not useful anymore when Zcash was forked into
Zclassic.

4
Bitcoin are "mined" (issued) following a predetermined schedule known by everyone from day one. There
will only ever be 21 million Bitcoins and the number of Bitcoin created every 10 minutes is halved every 4
years. Some altcoins, such as Ethereum, have been partially issued through auction. It results in a less
efficient distribution as most of the supply is already "mined" in a very short time and at a low market cap.

A big reason why Monero has been successful is because it is one of the few coins that is both interesting
from a technological standpoint and is a "grassroots" coin that has been issued in a transparent manner
from day one like Bitcoin or Litecoin, and has grown organically. Though it should be noted that Monero is
following a sped up issuance schedule where after only 2 years and a half, 75% of the coins have already
been mined.

Zcash was originally planned as an upgrade of the Bitcoin protocol and became its own coin for various
reasons. It was long awaited and has finally been released at the end of 2016. Both Monero and Zcash
technology hold promise and at this point its hard to know which one will prove more successful. And its
design, closer to Bitcoin, makes it easier to develop for. Zcash also boasts a world class team of
cryptographers, and has the exact same coin issuance model as Bitcoin (minus a "slow start" period that I
will explain in the "Zcash flaws" section) making it easier to compare the coins prices.

Zcash flaws
Now while technologically very appealing, Zcash suffers from some major problems. It is the product of a
US incorporated company with paid developers and with closed funding. The company behind Zcash has
decided to impose a 20% hardcoded tax on mining until half of the total supply is mined,

"Pre-issuance" of coins is frowned upon in the crypto community and any form of premine is usually
perceived as going against the ideals of Bitcoin and crypto-currencies of building an open, fair and
decentralized financial network for everyone. The case of Zcash is even worse because instead of holding
an auction open to everyone like the Ethereum foundation did, they have a closed group of investors. This
is a step back to the old boy network practice of the Wall Street IPOs.

Furthermore, Crypto-coins supported by a foundation/corporation have their own set of dangers as shown
by the Ethereum/Ethereum classic split. Foundations appear as towering figures of authority and thus tend
to lead to centralisation of the technical decisions, giving a false sense of consensus and providing a
potential target for legal attacks. This is in contradiction with decentralization and the spirit of crypto-
currencies.

Finally, from a trading/investing perspective, Zcash was managed like a highly anticipated IPO. They also
added a "slow-start" feature that resulted in an extremely constrained supply in the first 34 days 8. It all gave
birth to a coin that started trading at a very inflated price; coupled with the high inflation rate of the first 4
years, it puts a lot of pressure on the price from a trading standpoint. That will make it hard for people to
hold and invest in Zcash and for the currency to get positive momentum.

Zclassic
Fortunately, as all crypto-currencies are open-source, developer Rhett Creighton "forked" the Zcash code
to a new chain as soon as it was released however removing the 20% tax and the slow-start feature.

8 See https://forum.z.cash/t/zec-slow-start-info-for-miners/5785

5
By all accounts, Zclassic is what Zcash should have been.

It is Zcash without its self-imposed shackles. A privacy-focused altcoin that is community-based, fair and
decentralized. Creighton announced it publicly at the time so that everyone could mine from the very first
block. As it is customary for any new altcoin he posted on the "Bitcointalk" message board 9. He also
submitted a serie of articles on the platform Medium.

Zclassic currently has a micro market cap in the low hundred thousands of USD, with a rapid inflation of
7200 coins per day (for the first 4 years like Bitcoin). It has all the right and rare characteristics to convince
people of its potential once it achieves the tipping point of sustainability and awareness. It is one of these
very rare coins that answer a real need that justifies their existence, like Ethereum or Monero. But just 2
months after its release, it is flying completely under the radar.

For comparison purposes, the price of Zclassic is currently less than 1% of Zcash, while Ethereum Classic,
which also broke away from corporate coin Ethereum, is standing between 10 and 20% of ETH and has
some momentum. Moreover Zcash has much less "moat" than Ethereum: it is not protected by a core
community devoted to its ideal or its creator, unlike Ethereum. People have invested in Zcash for the
technology and Zclassic could even take on Zcash with proper momentum as its grassroot narrative is more
attractive.

What's more, Zclassic is not even traded on Poloniex yet. Poloniex is the number 1 venue for altcoin trading
and most coins see an increase in volume and often price once they trade on it.

2017 offers ideal conditions for Zclassic

Bitcoin finished 2016 on a furious rally to 1000 USD/BTC, which should lead to increased
awareness of the crypto-currencies space.
Bitcoin $16B market cap makes the altcoin space look really small in comparison. The Bitcoin
dominance index (Bitcoin share of all the crypto-space) currently stands around 88%, a return to
the historic mean of 80% seems likely.
Some big funds are already positioning themselves to take advantage of this environment10. Money
that has yet to be deployed.
The contentious issue of the blocksize is not solved while privacy will offer a new battleground in
2017 and in the following years.
2016 has shown the danger of corporate coins with for example the Ethereum/Ethereum Classic
split.
Ethereum Classic has shown that there is a strong demand for coins that preserve the ideals of
decentralisation and that a smaller fork can coexist with a bigger coin and can aim to overtake it.
Zclassic low market cap and low market awareness offer huge potential returns.

Zclassic Risk/Reward
Altcoins marketshare
Most altcoins are traded against Bitcoins rather than fiat currencies. It is therefore better to look at the
BTC/ZCL price for reference.

On 01/01/2017 the ZCL price stands around 0.0004 BTC/ZCL or 0.04% of one BTC.

Another reference for the price of Zlassic is Zcash. One ZCL is less than 1% of one Zcash at the beginning
of 2017.

Ethereum Classic and Ethereum offer an interesting comparison point to Zclassic and Zcash as they are 2
forks of the same coin. Ethereum Classic currently stands around 17% of Ethereum and has ranged in the
past from 5 to 30% of Ethereum.

Considering these facts, a target price for ZCL should be at least 0.1 ZCL/Zcash and a 10x upside from the
current price.

Another relevant reference point is the current price of Monero (the altcoin with the most momentum at the
moment) at 0.016 BTC ($16). That would be a 32x upside if Zclassic could catch up to Monero on a price
per coin basis. Considering that Zclassic supply will be an order of magnitude shorter than Monero in 2017,
this target can be achieved with a comparatively low market cap: around $32M for a supply of 2 million
coins (number of coins mined by the end of 2017).

Historically, strong altcoins have peaked at 10% of the Bitcoin market cap. Notably Litecoin, Ripple or
Ethereum have all hit $1B in the past. For the time being, this should be considered a theoretical ceiling.

Zclassic vs Zcash
When analyzing an altcoin, one must first keep in mind the dynamic of coins already mined (actual supply)
vs the final number of coins (final supply) and the current rate of mining. A coin like Ethereum, albeit young,
already has 80% of its supply mined due to its particular issuance through auction. That means that its
inflation rate is low and that its expected final market cap is close to the current market cap.

On the other hand, coins like Zcash and Zclassic that have just been released are still early in the issuance
schedule. That means that their current supply is small compared to their final one. There are currently 400
000+ Zclassic in existence for 21 millions coins, most of them mined in around 40 years. 7200 coins mined
every day for the first 4 years, 3600 for the next 4 and so on.

The high inflation rate of the first four years plays in favor of Zclassic vs Zcash. Zcash might have trouble
sustaining itself at current levels of 0.05 BTC: It started trading at absurdly high prices - up to 2000
BTC/Zcash (!) on the first day of trading - and it has a strong downward momentum while still being rather
expensive.

Meanwhile the price of Zclassic is very low, making it easy to sustain current levels and to rally strongly,
with a lot of room to run. This should result in an even stronger momentum for Zclassic in the Zclassic/Zcash
pair than in Zclassic/BTC.

Zclassic should target 10% of Zcash market shares as a first step from the current 1%. Ultimately it should
aim higher with the goal of overtaking Zcash. Zcash has just been released and is still extremely vulnerable,
as it does not enjoy the safety provided by a strong core of supporters, contrary to Ethereum.

7
Ethereum indeed was protected from Ethereum Classic in great part because of the nearly religious faith
its followers place in the Ethereum foundation and its god-like founder Vitalik Buterin (and such central
devotion should ultimately prove a strong negative point for Ethereum).

Comparatively, Zcashs 20% tax and its slow-start feature are not going to earn it a lot of good-will

Returns
The current targets for Zclassic are:

Short-mid term: 10% of Zcash, around 10X return

Longer term: overtaking Zcash, around 50-100X return
Ultimate goal: 1%-10% of Bitcoin: 25-250X return.
Ceiling: >10% of Bitcoin should realistically be considered an unsustainable peak.

Anywhere from 0.5% to 1% of the Bitcoin price would be a great success and provide a 10-20X return. At
current Bitcoin prices this is achievable with a market cap of only $13-25M at the end of 2017. And that
would still only be 0.1% of Bitcoin market cap.

Additionally, Zclassic has some easy boosts readily available. Altcoins prices are often a function of their
accessibility, and at the moment:

Zclassic has already Linux, Windows and MAC wallets while Android and IOS wallets are currently
under development and should shortly be made available to the public.
Zclassic is not yet traded on Poloniex, the dominant altcoin exchange. It will give a lot of visibility
to the coin when it starts trading there.

Returns from indirect exposure to Bitcoin

Finally, it is also important to remember that the Bitcoin network has been running uninterrupted for 8 years.
That it has achieved tremendous milestones; 1000$ USD per coin, $15B+ in market cap while surviving
multiple (4 or 5) bubbles with gut-wrenching bear markets and a 90%+ drop over dozens of months.

This is not a small feat for a groundbreaking innovation that is quite abstruse and requires both computer
science and financial knowledge to understand properly. And it all happened under neutral to negative
media coverage. But media follows the market and it therefore seems highly probable that, as Bitcoin stands
the test of time, more and more venues will change their coverage to positive while the growing market cap
will also allow bigger actors to partake. An ETF (Exchange Traded Fund) has also been going through the
approval process for 4 years and should be released in 2017 11.

Consequently, returns calculated in dollars could be multiple of those calculated in Bitcoin.

Risks
Of course these returns are the counterpart to a very high risk level. Altcoins are still a Wild West frontier
investment which is bound to have a binary outcome. Altcoins are self-fulfilling prophecies: would-be
investors need to see other people can believe in a particular altcoin to buy into it. Zclassic will first need to
garner momentum to show its sustainable and offer a viable alternative to Zcash. This is the most
dangerous phase.

11 See https://coin-etf.com/

8
Zcash technology could prove faulty as this is very new, cutting edge cryptography. The exchanges where
the coins are traded on might be hacked or steal the coins or any other unexpected event.

The reader should however be advised that these returns are the counterpart to a very high risk level.
Altcoins are still a Wild West frontier market, and the Zclassic investment is bound to have a binary outcome.

Because of the very nature of a currency, a coin may very well have the very best technology and yet
remain worthless if it fails to garner sufficient momentum and believers to reach a critical mass that would
trigger awareness within the crypto-space and widespread adoption.

That is the main challenge Zclassic will face, but a host of unpredictable events could yet hinder its adoption.
To name a couple, the relatively new Zcash technology could ultimately prove faulty in spite of its cutting
edge cryptography protocols or the exchanges where the coins are traded on might be hacked.

If Zclassic doesn't take off, the lack of liquidity will make it very hard to exchange back to Bitcoin without a
loss. On the other end, considering the low market cap, even a moderate amount of money flowing into
Zclassic combined with some grassroots activity might be enough to create a virtuous cycle and put in on
the map for good.

This is one of an extremely rare kind of investment that could easily yield a tenfold profit. The reader must
however be advised not to invest any assets he cannot afford to lose, for if the expected return is very high,
the associated capital loss risk is also far from negligible

9
Roadmap
We are about to see a major change in the cryptocurrency ecosystem. Massive nation-state directed
surveillance and blockchain analysis has deprecated the pseudo-anonymous features that Bitcoin once
had. Tremendous bureaucracy and massive infighting has divided the Bitcoin development community and
they will never adopt truly anonymous blockchain technology. This is where alternatives begin to emerge
and take Satoshi's manifesto to the next level. And so far the anonymity-focused alternatives to supercede
the Bitcoin implementation fall short of being satisfactory. They lack ambition, they lack utility, and they
absolutely lack sight of the future.

Zclassic developers are true subversives hellbent on taking Bitcoin marketshare and replacing it with
Equihash technology. In our mind, it is not enough for Equihash to succeed and it does not stop once Bitcoin
is fully deprecated. We intend to surpass Monero and also to make the Zerocoin Electric Company obsolete.
We will only rest when the majority of global transactions become untraceable and privacy is guaranteed.

Initially launched in November 2016, Zclassic already boasts a marketcap of nearly $500,000 USD and it
continues to grow and strengthen each day. In a few months we can expect the marketcap to exceed
$1,000,000 USD and greater adoption to occur. The first three months of the coin have been widly
successful:

Zclassic developers launched the first open-source Equihash technology mining pool
Zclassic developers successfully ported over the zero-knowledge cryptograhic library onto the
Windows platform
The Zclassic Slack/Rocketchat community has grown to over 800 users (Zcash-affiliated chat holds
897 users)
Zclassic developers successfully launched Zdeveloper.org, a website to consolidate Zcash and
Zclassic information

Phase I of the Zclassic roadmap is nearly complete. This entails creating the software needed for early
adopters to join the community and to allow it to initially grow; this included developing early graphical
wallets, developing free and open-source mining pool software, writing readily available tutorials and
guides, and also includes building up the chat community to sufficient size.

Phase II of the Zclassic roadmap will begin in the first weeks of March 2017. The purpose of this phase is
to develop software and a communication plan to make Zclassic a mainstream darknet cryptocurrency.
However funding is urgently needed to help bolster and incentivize development. During phase II the
following projects will be developed:

Wider cryptocurrency marketplace adoption in order to increase overall liquidity and introduce new
cryptocurrency traders to the Zclassic platform
Execute a direct communication plan and strategy in order to attract Chinese crypto-speculators
onto the Zclassic platform
Brand new graphical wallets using the Electron cross-platform codebase. This will allow the
graphical wallet to be used on all platforms (MacOS, Windows, Linux, Android, iPhone, etc).
A rewrite and upgrade of the BitWasp anonymous marketplace platform to use Equihash
technology in order to lower the bar for marketplaces to use Zclassic. This will additionally allow for
new anonymous marketplaces to emerge on the darknet and to use Zclassic.

Once Phase II is complete and those capabilities are developed then Zclassic will very likely be the most
significant cryptocurrency in the darknet arena.

Zclassic will then shift attention towards directly competing with Bitcoin.
